This movie is more like 1987. The guy is driving around in a freakin Buick! And Riki Takeuchi looks like he's in his early 20s! Where did they come up with the 1999 year - is that the year the DVD was released?

I agree. This movie looks more like late 1980s or early 90s.

1999 is the year it was released, but hard to tell when it was made.

The very end of the movie credits says 1994. Maybe it wasn't released until then or 1999 was the Japanese dvd release.

At one part I swore I saw a cellphone that couldn't have been around in 94, but then again Japan is the future.

Very mysterious.
