Because he was talking behind his back.He said : "this guy is a loser" or something like that.

his wife's lipstick was driving him crazy!

I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"

Yes you said it and that is why he punched him. LOL Some officers can be like that.

He was the guy at the start who tried to stop him diving to save the other diver.

He said if he dived he would basically make sure he would never dive again or something, cannot remember exactly but basically he told him not to dive, and that if he did he would cause trouble for him.

The guy was basically a complete dick all the way through the movie, from the beginning when he tried to stop Sunday saving somebodies life, to the end where he tried to stop Cookie being allowed back to active service.

Highly unlikely anyway that a Lieutenant Junior Grade (in the beginning of the film, anyway) would be so quick to crap all over a Chief Petty Officer like that. It would have certainly killed that officer's career before it really had a chance to flourish.

Junior officers never really mess with CPOs.

I have to agree with you there on that because a Chief is held in very high standards in the Navy. They are the back bone of the Navy and makes sure things get done. Plus, if you have a good Chief you can go to them with any problem and they will help you solve them. The only exception is if they are a bad Chief which we called them in the Navy a E-7 with bad leadership qualities.

Amen! I agree with you there! He was a pompous jerk who thought he was all that due to being an officer and everyone bellow officer ranks were nobodies to him. I could not stand officers like that in the Navy when I was in the service.

Rob, unfortunately they are in all services. I ran into my share when I was in the USAF.

That's why I think all officers should have to have been enlisted at some point. How can you really lead people unless you have been in their shoes at some point?
You see this in the civilian world too where a young person graduates with a degree in say culinary science, goes to work for a well-known and respected chef and acts like they are better than the chef they are working for.

Marcus Wareing, a well-known and respected chef in the U.K. had this happen to him.

That officer was a *beep* and deserved to be punch like that! See the old school Navy rules! You can get away with doing things like that, but in todays Navy you cannot. The officer busted him down a rank on a ship that is why Senior Chief Sunday punched him in the gut.
