what i can never understand

i realize that the initial prejudice against Chief Carl Brashear was eventually replaced with respect for him.

However there shouldn't have been any prejudice against him to begin with. The United States fought against this very same thing that was going on in Nazi Germany under Hitler's rule, and then our own military/navy practices racism as well???

so basically the US military doesn't mind racism, just not Hitler's brand of racism? i guess it is too much to expect the military to make any sense.

Do you also realize that during World War 2, our own US government kept 100,000s of Japanese Americans in internment camps at the same time they were fighting against Hitler's concentration camps?

If there's anything you need to know about our country, its that we only tolerate our own transgressions. But if anyone tries the same thing, we step in and tell them they are wrong.

Also, while black black and Japanese Americans were allowed to fight, their units were segragated from the rest of the army.

WW2 was not fought over racism! And the USA certainly did not enter it for that reason either. You should know your 20th century history better... particularly a guy called Martin Luther King.

The holocaust was a dirty rumor until the camps started being discovered by the Allies and the Soviets. Civil rights movement wasn't until the 1960s. Take a fuxking history class.

reply

Yes, plus all that civil right movement, black people being only allowed to sit at the back of the bus, and the lynchings happened after WW2. The military reflected what was in society too.

Hitlers people used the Democrats Jim Crow laws as a framework for creating the Nuremberg Laws.

Dont blame an entire country for racism when it was mostly the Democratic Party. The big lie told is that all of America was racist back then and its not true.

Also they didnt discover the Jewish concentration camps until near the end of WW2. U.S. went to war because Japan Bombed Pearl Harbor. They couldnt turn a blind eye anymore and they went to War against the Axis Powers.
