15 years later, thoughts?

Just saw it again recently and loved every moment of it. Still sent chills down my spine during the Lover's secret song bit, and during Roxanne, and The Show Must Go On. I also have a new appreciation for Like a Virgin, which went over my head before. It's very funny.

It does feel a little more delicate, and a little smaller somehow, for some reason. 10/10 for sure but a smaller film. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Your thoughts?

I love it just as much as I did originally, which is great-- typically films loved in one's teen years eventually seem cheesy or vapid. I am still not a fan of the Like a Virgin sequence and think the pacing is a little strange, but of course Elephant Love Medley, Roxanne, and Come What May still give me chills as well.

What I've got in my head you can't buy, steal, or borrow. I believe in live and let live.

Still makes me ugly cry. Love everything about this movie still today. Nicole Kidman was insanely good in this and should have kept that red hair.

Yeah I found that out also but she looked great with it!

One of my favourite movies. Just started watching it the last two years.

Still think it's a misunderstood masterpiece - though Baz might have miscalculated by putting the most chaotic scenes right at the start.

From what I've seen of most reviews, many people refused to go beyond the first 15 minutes but felt totally justified in slamming the movie online. Is it that tough to not watch it and just move on?

There's TONS of good movies that start slow or poorly - The Game, No County for Old Men, etc - unfortunately there's also TONS of idiots who think only the first 15 minutes matter.

That's an interesting point. The first dozen or so times I watched this movie as an youngster, my attention always seemed to trail off after the first night at the Moulin Rouge. It took a bit of time and maturation before I cared enough to appreciate the whole movie. Which, incidentally, 15 years on I still find quite spectacular.

Watching it for the first time in 10 or more years.
Absolutely loved it at the cinema and bought the DVd the day it came out.

I imagine some people may not like it, especially if some of the various songs referenced are over their heads:

But to me, 15 years later, it's still truly a masterpiece 10/10

I watch it every couple years and love it as much as I did 15 yrs ago. Nicole and Ewan are magical. I still cry like a baby at the end.
