Never Quite Understood (spoilers)

We all know that the end of the 2nd season ended on the cliffhanger of who Harrison had chosen between Brooke and Sam. Now, according to Ryan Murphy, he had chosen Brooke. Now, to me, this makes absolutely no sense after following his arc through the season. The ENTIRE season had been spent on him being in love with Sam and wanting to be with her and yet, at the end, he chooses Brooke? It doesn't make sense me.

Another strange thing is that, now that I'm older and rewatching it after some six years, I was actually rooting for Brooke. In the past, I was all about Sam/Harrison but now not only do I believe that Harrison's feelings for Sam came out of left field, but Brooke actually seemed like a better fit. In fact, I found myself siding with Brooke on a LOT of things on this rewatch. Anyone else have the same problem with what I mentioned before or find themselves switching sides of characters?

reply

Honestly yes. Since I've rewatched I found myself siding with Brooke too. Her feelings/arguments seemed way more valid than Sam's, especially watching it this time around.

No way, I'm rewatching it now and Sam is awesome. Brooke was annoying then to me and she is SO much more annoying now. Aside from character personalities, the fact that Sam is drop dead gorgeous and Brooke is considered all "foxy" is even more annoying now than it was then. I think cause back then if you were blonde and a stick figure, it meant you were pretty as it was the trend for about 5 minutes in the early 2000's, so the irony was somewhat tolerable. But now rewatching, it's kind of like seeing a morbidly obese person and hearing the other characters all talk about how skinny she is... its somewhat maddening.

Also, do you have the interview where Ryan Murphy actually says that? I can't find anything on it Personally I don't see how that can be, it just doesn't make sense, so if that's true, my guess is that it was for shock factor and to keep the thing between him and Sam lingering, like on how they did on Vampire Diaries with Elena and Damon... the ultimate tease to keep people watching.

rewatching Season one, I wouldn't really want Sam to end up with Harrison... she is such an awesome character who is absolutely stunning to look at, Harrison is ok, but she could do so much better.
Anyways, whatever was supposed to happen in season 3, keep in mind it would have only been season 3, not created as an end all but rather as a way to keep people watching and keep the story developing.

Hey!

Actually, I think the intent is that Harrison was always inlove with Brooke, and he is good for her as he keeps her down to earth. I do think they are a better match, and I think Murphy wanted the prom queen to be with the more unpopular Harrison. Don't really know why they made him fall in love with both, other than to create a reason to get Brooke and Sam fighting again, which I do think was a good storyline. They cant always get along, as that would be boring.

I also agree that Brooke is more likable. I love them both, but Sam is VERY overdramatic, while Brooke isn't. Like the time she freaked when Jane told her she wasn't planned. Whoooo cares?? I certainly wouldn't. Brooke is more reasonable and I really like her because she is preceived as a mean and shallow girl, but she really is kind.

She's everything he's ever dreamed of, of course he was going to choose Brooke.

The first time I watched the series, I adored Sam the most and I think that was because her character appealed to me more cause she was "edgy" at the time. However, after watching the series more recently I realized that she was more over-dramatic than I initially thought. I still liked her character, but I found myself liking Brooke on the same level as well.

Pretty much the only thing I never liked about Sam and Brooke's connecting storyline was that Harrison ended up liking both of them. I always felt that Harrison and Sam should remain friends only and their drama should be deeper/different than some love storyline. But I do agree with you on this one, OP, Harrison's feelings for Sam came out of the blue for me as well. I felt he had a more meaningful connection with Brooke.

I remember reading something like that online after buying the DVD set of the show, that Murphy stated Harrison chose Brooke. I can't remember if he ever stated why she ran away though, but I swear he hinted at it. In that same article, I also remember him stating that after being hit by the car (driven by Nicole), Brooke was going to wake up with brown hair.
