Hitting girls in the face

Would any guys here hit a girl in the face if they were mouthing off like Sarah Silverman's character was doing in this film?

If a woman ever accussed me of 'liking to *beep* baby heads" she would getting a facefull of fist.

They want equality...they can have it.

reply

people can yell all they want. they don't control me. i would have been polite enough to not sit on the car, so since i don't do dumbheaded crap, i don't get in the position to worry about it.

bonk!

reply

By dumb enough, you mean man enough. You wouldn't have been man enough to sit on the car.

reply

no, it takes no "man" to rudely sit on a car or to get his butt kicked.

bonk!

reply

It's insulting to men to suggest that being manly means being stupid and rude.

reply

Hear, hear!

This. Not all men are like that.

I don't really think they were trying to show anyone up. Thats what was so interresting about the way they thought. Didn't fall into the conventional rules. It was the girl who started the fight - She was just acting through proxy, with her whipped boyfriend. So who to punch? The proxy or the source.
It is definately one of my favorite moments in the film; not because I enjoy violence towards women, but because it so clearly shows how they are looking at things from outside the normal social bounds. Bitch definately had it coming, but if it were me, or anyone else here, probably; yeah, we'd fight the guy instead, thats just how things "work", socially. Wierd. :)

Longbaugh, yeah, he was just showing his loyalty for his friend by making sure he had his ass kicked too, I guess.

I always figured the guy paid them to do that, so she would stop getting him into so much trouble or stop mouthing off to everyone.

Since they were counting the money before it started it always made me think he paid them to do that, instead of randomly getting beat up for no reason.

reply

Hmm... that's an interesting take. I'll have to watch that scene again because I thought they were playing hearts (card game), and the money was because they were betting each other.

reply

Not hitting girls in the face when they step up is pure sexism.

Who says she cant KICK YOUR ARSE.

If she kicks your arse and steals your wallet, yer gonna wish you'd punched her in the face first.

I mean, what's the face got to do with it? Whether you knock her block off or kick her in the shins, it's still assault. Go for gold mate.

Sincerely,

A marriage counsellor.

reply

Exactly. If women start shi* they should expect to get hit. Being a woman shouldn't mean you get to say and do whatever you want to men without fear of retribution.

reply

[deleted]

Why should hitting a woman who acts like a man be any different than hitting a man? Wouldn't that be, dare I say it, a sexist assumption? How do you expect to achieve complete sexual equality when you're operating on a different set of moral standards? Can't have it both ways, and that's why if you think you're man enough to mouth off like that, well then you're man enough to handle the repercussions.

reply

^^this^^

if you expect the protection of 'chivalry", you have to play your role in that contract.

I never understood why "violence against women" is some separate issue.

for one thing, overwhelmingly men are the majority of victims of violence anyway...

for another, if that form is totally taboo, then ALL violence is taboo.
I don't see how it is gender streamed now for propriety.

reply

This is the funniest post I read in IMDB. "Go for gold, mate" made me litteraly gasp for air while laughing.

reply

I find this whole conversation surreal. Why is the assumption that the natural reaction to someone dropping some curse words is to punch them in the face? Man or woman, just because someone is acting childish doesn't mean you have to hit them. I find that odd. I've been in a lot of fights - both verbal and physical. I'm not talking out of fear, here. I'm just talking about matching rather than escalating a conflict. If someone flips me off, I'll probably flip them off. If someone yells or curses at me, I'll probably roll my eyes. If someone physically attacks me or one of my friends or family, I will react physically.

reply

I've been in a lot of fights
No. You haven't.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

???

I see 2 posts you have made on this board. One where you call me a liar, and the other where you agree with my point. What's your deal? Do you just disbelieve that physical fights actually occur?

reply

Hi. Just because I agree with you doesn't mean that I believe you about fighting. In my experience, people that have been in "a lot" of fights generally don't make the claim that they have.

I like (for the most part) your tastes in movies but I'm surprised that you gave Secret Window a 1. I think if nothing else, John Turturro's fantastic performance elevates it to a 10 :)

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

Well, to look at it objectively, hitting ANYONE in the face is illegal and generally considered wrong but everyone thinks that others should behave according to their "rules of engagement" and/or personal moral code. There's ALWAYS someone bigger and tougher.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

It seems to be the ultimate showing of equality to me.

reply

If she wants to act tough, she can step up and take a hit. Her boyfriend didn't insult me, she did.

women are evil. its why we make money. hitting them is a great idea. i think im gonna go punch a homeless chick in the face now.

reply

Yeah if you hit a homeless bird in the face, hopefully you'll do a bit of damage and she will spend a night in the hospital. She gets shelter for the night while you show that you're all about 'equality' - everyone wins! More people should punch homeless birds. Who's with us?

reply

I'm 6'4 and 245# and could seriously injure most of the population. No way I have to take lip from some 5'9 170# runt just 'cause I can kick his ass. Same goes for any 5'5 130# bitch who wants to mouth off, she's gonna get hit. Besides, as has been previously mentioned, you really don't know what a person's fighting abilities are until it's on. I had a friend that was 5'9 and 170# who could mop the floor with me despite my size advantage.

Bottom line: bitch had it coming. That scene is hilarious.

I'd knock that bitch the *beep* out and not think twice about it, of course if baby skull *beep* is implied.

I saw nothing wrong with it.

The only time I would hit a woman in the face is if she ever hit me in the nuts in my house!

reply

I absolutely love Sarah Silverman. She's Effing brilliant in that opening scene. I love her sense of humor, and she's one of the hottest comediennes I've ever seen. She did a fantastic job making me hate her character so much that by the time Phillipe's character hits her, I'm hysterical with laughter.

I don't think I'd ever hit a girl, unless it was one of those weight-lifting body-building ladies with no breasts and pecs bigger than mine (and then I'd need a good reason to do so, like self-defense.)

Sarah Silverman is one of the most vulgar people on the planet, but in a good way. She also has the cleanest breasts in America.

reply

I would not hit a girl ever, but I also train in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu so I can cause a lot more pain without leaving a mark. Phillippe's character was totally justified in hitting Silverman's character. She was being a flat out bitch and if it was a guy saying it ya wouldn't give it a second thought to hit him. They want equality then give it to them.

reply

It depends. If she is the girlfriend of the person wanting to fight me I definantly would. Like McQuerie says in the audio comentary they are going to have to put up with her after the fight not you. Also if a girl tried to fight with me I think I would. Women always wanted to be treated equal and or think they are supierior to men so i would use that opportunity to knock down a peg or two. I have not or will not ever abuse a women I am in a relationship with.

reply

If any chick deserves a smack in the mouth it would be Sarah Silverman's character in this movie. C'mon she said he liked to f@ck BABY HEADS!!! He should have punched her and her momma.

reply

"Women always wanted to be treated equal and or think they are supierior to men so i would use that opportunity to knock down a peg or two. "

- whoooah sonny, so we deserve "taking down a peg or two" for wanting to be treated equal?? thats stupid. thats like saying, "im going to hit that black guy because he wants to be treated equally, cheeky guy.

reply

Hell with it. She mouths off, it's the ban of the hand.

Signature? Huh? Oh damn...

reply

hmmmm i hit my girlfriend once, but then she hit me back and broke one of my ribs, so it ain't all bad
