Yeah, i remember Meadows & Considine discussing Morrell's voice on the commentary & sayin' it was based on the speaking voice & inflections of Bartley Gorman ( a bare knuckle boxing gypsy i believe ), i also believe that Shane Meadows is trying to get a movie of Gorman's life up & running.

Hope so.

Sounds like an excellent subject matter.

i think is accent is confusing but like you have said i think it is deliberate. the guy is obviously deeply confused himself and is pretty effective! i heard some irish in there coming though i'm sure aswell. lol.

It’s like part James Stewart, part Alan Partidge, with a bit of Elvis and Cliff Richard thrown into the mix.

There's also a line in the film from Morell where he talks of a flower you can only pick in Ireland - perhaps furthering the concept of him living in Ireland at some point... maybe...

Well, Paddy's late father was Irish...

As for the accent having been inspired by Bartley Gorman -- Bartley came from Irish stock but was born in England, and his accent may have been colored by having lived a lot of his life in Wales and the Midlands of the UK. (Speaking of which, I, too, hope that Shane and Paddy can get their Gorman bio-pic off the ground -- not just because I know it means a lot to them, but also because I'm reading the guy's memoir now, and it's pretty remarkable stuff; I'd love to see his life dramatized for the big screen.) :)

I live near Matlock and Ashbourne, and no way do I recognize his accent. It's certainly not a Derbys/Notts accent as far as I can tell. Or maybe we all sound like that and i've just never noticed

Bartley Gorman all the way. Some of the comedy styling was Alan Partridge. If Gorman had been alive, I wonder how he would have felt, being an inspiration for such a nutjob character.

Tom Hardy listed Bartley Gorman as inspiration for the voice of Bane too..
