Mad Morrell

Quite possibly one of the most frightening characters i've ever seen in a movie.

You can keep Freddy Kruger, Morrell is true horror!

You obviously assume to much. The only reason I watched 'A Room For Romeo Brass' WAS because of 'Dead Mans Shoes'.

Lol, sorry didn't mean that to sound snotty. It's just when he turned on Romeo's mate at the beach and pulled out that knife it sent chills down my spine, and don't even get me started on that part where he ran out from under the stairs with tights on his head, that scared the bejesus out of me and no mistake!!

I agree, he is a terrifying character. He is of course a bully and a coward and probably couldn't handle himself in a fair fight, but he is terrifying. He's a nightmarish character, there were plenty of people like him at school and around the place where I grew up (only not as deranged) so I could really relate to Romeo and Gavin's helplessness when confronted by Morell. He's like something out of a nightmare, the figure that chases you relentlessly through your dreams, the stark contrast in his mood was very frightening too. Paddy Considine is an exceptional actor, he should stop wasting time in tired, expositional roles in things like 'The Bourne Identity' and go back to what he does best.

You can't help but feel sorry for Morrell in some bits, though. Especially in the montage accompanied by If This Is Love by Sunhouse, where he's sat in the room alone and flicking through something. You can see an oxygen tank in the backgrounf, obviously used by his father. It's pretty emotional.

he is a real crazy character and i think its amazing how it was paddys first film. its obvious though how much he has progressed from romeo brass to dead mans shoes. to be honest i wouldnt want to get on the wrong side of either of these characters.

I think the thing that makes him scary is that he is clearly unhinged.. He's the type of person who WOULD stick a hammer through your head. He clearly needs some help so although he is scary, yes, I do feel sorry for him too
