I think it deserved better, could it also be because of it's release date?

I believe that could've had quite an effect on it's box office. The world went in to absolute panic when that happened.

I remember bob Dylan's love and theft album came out on September 11. I remember buying it that day to get my mind off things

I didn't realize that. I thought the movie was good and watched it a few times. I was surprised at the box office sales but I agree that was probably a huge factor.
