5.8 is B.S.

Surley this movie deserves a better rating, flawed or not! I just picked up the DVD after renting it 4 times and I have to say it gets better every time! Awesome original songs for a period film and good acting to boot, even if Jennifer Aniston seems a little out of place. 8/10

I wouldnt take the overall score too seriously, as we all know its based on an average of everyone's user score and some people rank things low just for the apparent fun of it so thats probably what happened.

reply

totally agree with you...I give it a solid 7....just sayin

reply

Yeah, I admit I jumped the gun a little givin' it an 8, just needed to counter balance that meazely 5.8... Yall are right, 7/10. Watched it again last night though; so entertaining! I love how a small film you've seen so many times can give you that feeling of nostalgia. I get misty eyed near the end when Trevor Rabin's wonderful score fades up over the rock song as Izzy leaves the stage and tells Mats he has to take a piss. Great score AND songs.

I gave it a 10. This is one damn good story, very well told, very well acted, and hugely underated.

reply

I also gave it a 10. This is a great movie, one of my favourites.

reply

I agree with you all as well, I think this could be enjoyable to people who aren't "metal heads" or anything. I'm not surprised at the rating too much though.

reply

Yeah, i can't believe i almost didnt watch this because of the rating. Wtf is wrong with people, 5,8?! It's a great story, great fun, and it's based upon a true story. I gave it a 10 to even this damn rating, but the movie is a solid 8 in my opinion.

reply

Not to mention the Steel Dragon songs were really good and written by some familiar names.

reply

Very underrated for sure. 8/10.

reply

agree...i give this movie 8/10, really a good movie

The FIRST TIME I saw it a LONG TIME AGO thought it was pretty good... Was just watching it again on TV, came to the IMDb page, saw the rating, and thought "WTF".

It ain't THAT bad to warrant a rating of 5.8 is it?

What gripes do folks have with this movie?

reply

I gave it a one, because there was no zero option, one of the most trite, ridiculous screenplays in recent memory. The subject matter is also just awful. The hairband dinosaurs of the 1980s should be forgotten as much as is possible, as they represented a cultural low in Americana.

Hairbands = cross-dressing males with no musical talent passing themselves off as tough guys. Those guys always got their asses kicked by real men. So pathetic...

Are you a "real man" ~ how so?

reply

I'm not claiming to be a "real" anything, I just remember the hair band dudes, who wore all the silly costumes, and make up at my high school. They acted like they were tough, but they always got the sh*t kicked out of them.

So then what's a "real man" then?

reply

Any male other than the cross-dressing, hair band, moronic dinosaurs from the 1980s.

It's a fun movie, not to be taken too seriously. It's a strong 7 IMO. I saw that Howard quote and instantly knew chas's opinion was moot. Gotta love that Howard brain washing these drones.

reply

My opinion is what it is, and its not moot. You give this a strong 7?, based on what criteria? Fun? BTW, Howard probably liked this film.

The problem is that this film does take itself seriously.

reply

Just so everyone knows the quote from chas was "Who's high pitch". High pitch is a 400lb irritating homeless person that Howard exploits for ratings. Im sorry but it's you that can't be taken seriously. Who cares if Howard liked it. He hasn't been relevant in film since Private Parts.

Rock Star had solid music. Not great, but solid. Solid performances from all actors involved, especially Timothy Spall who s fantastic as the band manager. The script was average, but not horrible. It was even funny, sad and exciting at times. Again not a great film, but a strong 7.

reply

So, by your logic, anyone who has been amused by a Howard Stern goof, can be completely dismissed?

BTW, I'm pretty sure you and I are the only ones who will ever take this thread seriously.

This is just silly, have a nice life dude.

reply

SMH. Whatever. I disagree with your assessment on this film, and yes daily Howard listeners can be mindless sexist drones when commenting and participating in almost anything. Not all, but most. They embarrass me as a human being. Hope that clarifies my feelings on the subject.

PS nothing about posting on a forum do I take seriously. I was stating a differing of opinion and the lack of creditability one should receive when quoting a person like High Pitch. Take care.

I loved this movie and rate it an 8 and yes, a lot has to do with the nostalgia from the era for me. Not a perfect movie by and means but personally, it was a good one for me as I had a certain love for some of the hair bands and also took to the grunge scene as well. Talent is talent as far as I'm concerned. But calling any Howard stern listener a mindless drone is pretty lame in my opinion. I've been a huge stern fan for years and he doesn't exploit anyone who isn't willing to be exploited. These people gain a certain degree of "fame" where otherwise they would be simply looked at as a freak. RIP Eric the actor. Bye for now

reply

Grab a guitar and try to play the stuff the hairmetal bands played. A lot of 'real men' in 'real bands' will have real problems trying to replicate all the technical things they played.

reply

No musical talent?
You may not care for the music or the era and it's look, but musically most of the bands were consummate musicians and still are.

The only thing pathetic was you presenting your opinion as a fact.

"Whether you like or dislike something, do it with respect and don't be a troll!"

reply

I didn't think to highly of this film, it was an average run of the mill movie. You can see by the movie's gross that it wasn't to popular, even though the timing of the release couldn't have been worse. I thought the ending was pretty crappy looking like Nirvana unplugged including the cello player and a lookalike sweater. I give it 5/10.

reply

I thought it was a pretty decent film and a 7/10.

Marky Mark did a lot better stuff around this era such as The Corruptor and The Yards but I didn't think the script gave him quite enough to work with.

Timothy Spall and Dominic West were the stand out actors for me.

reply

Yes, I loved Timothy Spall and Dominic West too! I believe they are both in the movie From Time to Time.
