You are correct. But I would say this movie is loosely based on that factual account. I suppose they liked the idea of that sort of rags to riches, or my dreams actually came true type of story, but didn't use the exact same styles, etc. Hard to imagine that actually happened, what a lucky guy he was, for a little while anyway.

Wonder what he is doing now?

Yes, it's similar. Trivia page on IMDb even mentions the similarity. Not a JP listener myself so not familiar with the whole thing other than what I've read about it now.

An unknown Joe Lynn Turner was discovered by guitar legend Ritchie Blackmore to sing with his band Rainbow. Please click on

Like Chris "Izzy" Cole, Turner thought the first call he received from Blackmore was a prank. Turner was an unknown but had not been playing in a tribute band. I am practically related to the guy. He is my Eskimo brother.

Yes this film is about Tim's rise with JP after Rob went to do Fight, 2W0 and Halford.

Since Rob's return, Tim has been lead vocals for Iced Earth, Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force band, his own solo band and doing a lot of tribute albums, including Ronnie James Dio's tribute.

His voice is quite shot now.

That is the obvious comparison.

Ripper's relationship with Judas Priest was played about and served as inspiration to create Rock Star. \m/
