Who do you have to play as to unlock new characters?

So I have been playing this game and when I played as Pikachu, I unlocked Jigglypuff and when I played as Mario I unlocked Capitan Falcon.Who do I have to play as to unlock the other two characters?

That's not how it works.

Jigglypuff: Beat 1-Player mode just once (any difficulty, any character).
Luigi: Beat all 8 starter characters' Break The Targets.
Captain Falcon: Beat 1-Player mode in under 20 minutes (any difficulty, any character).
Ness: Beat 1-Player mode on Normal with only 3 lives (any character).
