Confused on end-SPOILER!!!

In the end, Maddie signals him a message from the light house after she dies. But she told James that the book wasn't true and she made it up. Was that true or was she lying because James's dad didn't want him to believe that stuff?

That's part of the magic of the movie.

I felt that she was telling him it wasn't true because of his dad... but the end shows you just how real it all was, imo.

I felt they both always believed it was real, though...

I feel it was real to Maddy as she had a "gift" and she instilled that "gift" into James

That's how I see it; James believed, and once James believed in Mary everyone could see the lighthouse together. I thought that was awesome!
