Am I the only one that liked this movie?

Maybe it offended all the religious zealots too much but I didn't think they would even watch it. I thought it was pretty original and challenging of many topics that are important (at least to me) in today's world. Or maybe no one wants to entertain the possibilities for even a moment. It's just too risky.

I liked it also. I just chanced upon it on cable and I watched one more time later on. I liked the way they took chance and challenged something that can be controversial. If you think of it it is just as controversial as the "James Box" in real life. But if it does happen in real life there will be lot more bloodshed on this than the movie (IMHO).

Something original and yeah it is a good movie and also a good ending.

Yes you are. It's the worst movie I've seen in years. In basic the story is interesting, but in this film told in a very bad way. The director should be forbidden to make more movies. One piece of crap is enough.

Its very well paced. The actors are excellent. There are some plot weaknesses. The tension is somewhat stilted. But, overall its an interesting film, and at times an exciting one.

I liked the movie. I've read some books in the past which introduced the idea that Jesus was the rightul king of Jews coming from the house of David, I think that idea was subtly mentioned in the movie refrering to his burial. I agree with you that religious zealots will find it offending, for the rest of us it's an interesting perspective to look at Jesus as historical person.
If you are interested in the topic I recommend the following book: Holy Blood, Holy Grail by MICHAEL BAIGENT, RICHARD LEIGH, HENRY LINCOLN

As another Catholic (and ordained) - I agree - I don't think there was too much that was deeply offensive in the movie - but gosh, it was very thin, and not a great movie by any stroke of the imagination. Sure it is okay for people to examine these issues, but please do it in a well-researched way that is accurate to how the world really is. That is where this movie let us down - it didn't push the boundaries far enough, and left the audience bored. The real Jesus - risen in his glorious body - is never boring. All glory to him!

I'm not quite sure I understand. Either Jesus was the son of Joseph and thus of the line of David and therefore King of the Jews, but had no divinity in his blood at all. OR, he was the son of god and was no relation to his mother's husband (Joseph) and thus had NO claim to the throne of David and could not call himself King Of The Jews anymore than he could claim to be Emperor of the Rome.

Do you mean you've read a lot of books that state that Jesus was not divine in any way and his REAL father was Joseph, which would mean that he could claim to trace his lineage to the house of David?

I liked it. It was a little boring as far as entertainment value, but a very interesting storyline nonetheless.

reply

It had potential... very strong potential - and all of it was wasted on a bland "action" flick with big guns and loud explosions.

I thought it was great. Loved the actors and local scenes in Jerusalem. Provocative topic. The only plot flaw was why they didn't guard the tomb 24/7. But it was an interesting movie with a great religious theme.

reply

I totally agree, obx. I loved this movie...I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how they would end it. It sucked me into its topic very quickly.

I have watched this movie twice.

As a Christian I found it thought provoking and a little unsettling, though the end was satisfying enough. The relationship between Father Matt, being a Catholic priest and celibate, and Sharon, being a Jewish woman also adds an interesting dynamic. On the whole a film that made an impression on me.

If you don't have an interest in religion or theology, then you might be a bit bored by it. Otherwise, worth seeing.

No, you weren't the only one who liked the movie. I think a lot of people gave it bad marks simply because they didn't like the subject matter: either they were offended by the premise of even considering finding Jesus' bones, or they didn't like it simply because it involved religious issues.

Personally, I liked the movie.

reply

You said it very well. I agree completely.

reply

Yep, I believe that's why it has such a low rating. On all other movie sites where there isn't a American majority this movie generally receives a rating around the equivalent of high 6's-low 7's.

I liked it, not something incredibly new and the climax scene was a bit silly but overall this movie handled itself pretty well.

reply

I loved it...in fact I loved it so much I've watched it 6 times...call me sad if you like but there you go - and I'm not even religious!

reply

I really liked it too!
