I Actually Saw This in the Theater!
Way back in 1999 I took a trip to New York City. I made it out there every year or so in those days. And everytime I am there, check the paper for some crazy independent movie that I could not see in the theater otherwise.
Well, I found a FULL PAGE ad for this, and that was it. My weirdo fix for that trip. Me and my friends went, about 4 in all, to a half full theater. Offer and no other people invlved with the movie were there, but the whole thing was hosted by Melrose Larry Green from the Howard Stern show (who had nothing to do with this movie...)
Anyway, we watched the whole movie. I actually am sad to say I found some of the bits funny. Low standards I guess. A few months later I started reading all this stuff about him sueing the Farrelly Brothers and various other celebrities, and thought "What a dousche". Great way to make a splash in the enttainment industry...sue everybody! Yeah, thats the ticket!
So a couple years go by and I forget all about it. Then I see it advertised on Howard Stern or so other late night crap. I started laughing, and was like, "He's still at this crap!!!" And every once in awhile somebody i knew bought it. Same dudes who bought Girls Gone Wild, Bumfights, etc.
And then I forgot about THAT. Then I saw the ShamWow commercial and was immediatly hooked on the weirdo hosting it. I couldn't tell if it was real or a spoof of some sort (I first saw it as a YouTube) and also saw various remixes, etc. I had no clue it was Vince Offer.
The other day ShamWow came up at work. The guy I was talking to was like, You know that guy is in a movie, right?" I laughed and was like, "What movie?" And he said he Underground Comedy ovie" that they used to advertise on TV. My jaw dropped. It was a genuine "holy s#!%!" moment.
I feel transended by this decade. This decade of Offer.
