Purported tension??? for drama and publicity

Having now watched a lot of Herzog films, some good, some awful (don't waste your time on INCIDENT AT LOCH NESS!), I'm taking a more skeptical and cynical view toward Herzog. I think much of the supposed conflict between Herzog and Kinski was manufactured for publicity and drama. Even the scene in MY BEST FRIEND in which Kinski rants and raves about the food on location during FITZCARRALDO now seems contrived to me and as "setup."

While I think some of Herzog's claims should be taken with a grain of salt, I don't think his tales of Kinski are among them. Many people have recounted similar encounters with him, after all.

This video interview is in German, but another example of a Kinski fit (very end): http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=video&file=kinski.wmv

Its a shame that the video has no subtitles cause that interview is awesome. I saw a subtitled version of it, and it is classic Klaus Kinski as he tears into the poor girl trying to interview him.
