Great film, but i wish it had more scenes of...

This is an awesome documentary and one of my favourite Herzog films, but i do wish it had had more scenes of Kinski throwing temper tantrums on set, and more scenes of happier moments between Kinski and Herzog.

the scene of Kinski raving on the Fitzcarraldo set was an eye(and ear)-opener but i would've liked to have seen more such footage of him raving on other film sets.

likewise, the one scene of Herzog & Kinski together in happier times (at the film festival) was a good piece of footage but i would've liked to have seen more of such footage.

i still think it's a great documentary film though.

Given the frequent lack of any real financial backing there wasn't really any film to waste on side stuff. And Herzog pretty much always scraps any unused bits of film. Those two things combine for a serious lack of excess footage. I'm impressed we have what we have :)

The temper tantrums were the wreck at the side of the road you just have to see. I could use more of them as well. I wouldn't have minded a bit more context about what exactly was "wrong" with Kinski. Really, I could have used more of everything, and if it ran six hours, I'd still want more. I loved this film whether it was addressing Kinski's rage, Herzog's passion, or everything else in between.

Great film regardless. 9/10 stars from me.
