So basically, herzog gloats about exploiting kinski?

I watched this documentary and felt physically sickened by what I saw.

What really happened:

Herzog brought a mentally unstable schizophrenic all the way out into the jungles and for months kept provoking him into breakdowns and into getting angry, just for the sake of some dubious concept of 'energy' in acting.

Acting is already high pressure and being in the jungles is a lot of stress, add on top of that someone who has a history of mental illness, and what do you expect? For him not to scream about something every once in a while?

Then to paint Kinski as an unreasonable, crazy man who tried ruining the movie, and yourself as a good person who was a 'victim' of kinski... And to talk about how 'deep inside kinski wanted me to push him'.. That's just, despicable, in my opinion.

How is it that dozens of other directors managed to work with kinski??

I think herzog just wanted to make a little bit of cash by lying about kinski, and at the same time make himself look good.

*beep* you, herzog.

Is that you Klaus?

"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man."

What you fail to understand is that Kinski lived for the acting, COULDN'T have lived any other way. He would have done it somewhere else, with someone else. That energy couldn't be tamed.

I can't see Herzog making a hero out of himself. He wanted to kill the man, for god's sake. But in the end, what they were was just friends - in one of the most perverse way imaginable, definitely. I don't think we can really understand how it worked.

Erm, Kinski did have at least three children, including actress Nastassja.

I hate stating the obvious.

Kinski was an actor.

He acted.

It was his profession.

Herzog was not an asylum warden, was not a doctor, was not Kinski's legal guardian. Kinski was not Herzog's responsibility.

Herzog was a director.

A director needs actors.

VOILÁ!
