Who was the vampire? (spoilers)

I didn't quite understand whether Radojka was some kind of reincarnation/descendant of Sava Savanovic, or whether she was 'possessed' by the butterfly after it was released. Does anyone have an answer for this? Does the original story make it clear?

Oh whisky, leave me alone.

She was possessed by the butterfly.
Do you remember the scene when butterfly flies from the coffin and is captured by ŽŽivan? He is laughing and planning revenge on Strahinja and the peasants.
He has put the butterfly in Radojka's mouth. We don't see that in the movie, but that is the only logical explanation.

The ending of the movie(after the kidnapping) is completely different from the original novel, there is no vampire transformation,Strahinja and Radojka lived happily ever after, and ŽŽivan accepted their marriage.

Thanks, I'd assumed that was the case. It's odd that the original novel would conclude like that as it's the ending that makes the film for me.

Oh whisky, leave me alone.

Yes, but only one thing to add about the novel - at the end if it, the butterfly caused disease and death of small children in the area where the story is set.

I must say the relationship between the vampire, the butterfly, the coffin and the girl remained rather obscure for me. That's not necessarily a bad thing. But overall, Leptirica is clearly inferior to Lokis. Rekopis profesora Wittembacha (1970) - another horror film based on Slavic mythology.
