John Carpenter's 'The Fog' was on the other channel...

I remember this distinctly because I was at home by myself that night, back in 1992, 15 years of age, by no means of a nervous disposition and thinking that this was a real documentary.

I actually missed a few minutes of GhostWatch because some scenes (the girl talking in tongues, Pipes at the curtain etc.) scared me so much that I was forced to change channels for a breather and in comparison, The Fog, which is a great movie in itself, was like watching the TeleTubbies.

I've since watched it again and sad to say it hasn't really stood the test of time (or my age) because while I still enjoyed it the poor acting from Sarah Greene et. al at times is pretty laughable. Still this had no bearing on me at the time which is testament to the effect it had.

If only they could make horror movies that had this sort of effect these days, sadly I think society is so desensitized we're unlikely to see anything like this again.

Having said that, anyone who was a fan of this should check out 'Rec' or 'Inside' if they haven't already as they are both vaguely comparable in some way.

Hey it's been a long time since you posted this, but just in case you somehow never found an answer to your question:

It is disturbing. :)

Me too! Didn't believe in ghosts then, or now, but this programme really got me! I thought it was a real documentary and had been looking forward to it all week from the adverts. It was brilliantly done.

Nothing has ever scared me like that before, or since.

It's just a shame that they'd never do anything like it again, I mean, it was Halloween!

I remember being with a freind of mine and watching this ( i was 18 she was 16) and we were both bloody terrified!!
I also remeber on that particular night (one which remains engraved in my mind for all bloody time!) that we decided to watch the fog (which we had taped) to calm us down. We watched John Carpenter to calm us DOWN!!
What made this especially memorable is that as I left my friends house for the half hour, lonely drive home, i noticied it was very foggy....
You can imagine how pooh ya pants scared i was when the clutch cable snapped on my car leaving me literally in the ar$e end of nowhere, in the fog, on my own and already bloody terrified!!!!

Whilst we still laugh about the breakdown, we both still got a shiver down our spine when we watched this on google video a couple of weeks ago.
I read the short story follow up that Steven Volk did, which was also preety scary.
All in all this was one of th best scares i have ever had

I am pretty sure Wall Street was on ITV, as a kid who was scared rotten by Ghostwatch I went into the other room and watched Wall Street.

I remember doing the same re The Fog! I started off watching GW in a room on my own, got scared (I was ~15 & thought I was immune to scary films) and went into the lounge where my parents were watching it. This made things better until our young cat decided she wanted to be let in by banging into the patio door and miaowing very loudly *shudder*.

I knew we were ok when we let the cat in and she didn't go crazy or anything. I was bloody nervous going to bed though - it's amazing how many silhouettes you can see when the lights are out...
