Why???

This film has to have been one of the wierdest I have ever seen. I watched it accidently and can say that i will not be doing it again. Overall the plot was a bit thin: Genetically Modifyed Bats!!!! In what part of reality would that ever happen. What would be the point.
The characters were almost all stereotypes in this film which I suppose was a horror. Does anyone else feel that they wasted their time on this one?

We are making bat-meetings with friends. This have to be our favourite film , it is too bad , it is very funny.

Silence, is the sound of nature.

I never said it wasn't funny, it's just I'm not sure it's supposed to be?

reply

it still made a couple of million bucks so some people liked it...

Sad that a movie this horrible would make some money, too bad...I have nothing against Lou Diamond though.

Turn to stone, lose my faith, I'll be gone before it happens.

I agree Alexander, I can think of a thousand movies way worse than this yarn...but really now are we forgetting something here? Did I not a couple of years ago see a Britney Spears movie named Crossroads?

tlm400, I liked this movie. It was just fun. If you really want to watch a movie accidently and not watch it again, I recommend you find a copy of "Night of the Lepus." Giant, man-eating bunnies. Horrifying! Scary! Run for your life!

"Genetically Modifyed Bats!!!! In what part of reality would that ever happen. What would be the point."

It explains the point in the best quote of the entire film:

"Because I'm a scientist!!! It's what we do!!!"

Of course the line should be, "Because I'm a MAD scientist!!! It's what we do!!!"
But then no real mad scientist would admit to being mad. He,and/or she, might scream that "at Heidelberg they said I was mad!" But in the entire canon of sciencery, no mad scientist admits to being mad. And, as the great philosopher, Gomer Pyle, frequently reminded us, mad scientists are always "messin around with things man was not meant to know."

Genetically modified bats are not that far fetched considering some of the work being done in genetics these days (check http://www.geneticsandsociety.org for more info), but the "because we are scientists" reasoning was a bit absurd. But then, McCabe was supposed to be a bit mad I suppose and he was still being secretive rather than revealing the work had military applications. In reality, bats would be modified in an attempt to maximize their beneficial aspects while minimizing their detrimental aspects just like any other animal. You don't really expect man to leave well enough alone, do you?
