How did they pay rent?

How did Nikki and Kim pay rent? Both were in school and Kim didn't have a steady job, neither did Nikki. The only times I saw both working was when they were building supers, and working in the Magic Johnson Theaters (they lost both of these jobs). Then Nikki had a job working at Andell's and, at one time, a catering job on the set of the sit-com where Jasmine Guy was a guest star. Nikki somehow lost both of those jobs. Yet, every month, these two were able to pay rent on a two-plus bedroom apartment in Southern California. Very odd.

This brings up another question? How did they ever pay for college? Kim was as smart as a blade of grass. She must have gotten a full scholarship for being the "World's Biggest Idiot."

Same here, 101!!

Nikki's ex-husband ('Tommy' from the Martin Show) was rich. He must've helped out, but I doubt it, because they hated each other, except for when the both got sloshed one night after drinking some Aloize (sp?) and did it. That was the popular drink on the show. Obviously TV shows, etc. have to make up their own, fake brand of alcoholic and soft drinks, but this Aloize, or whatever the hell it was, looked like pink lemonade. The drink was pronounced Al-oh-zay. Whenever they drinked that crap, it looked good, and I always want to run out to the store to grab a bottle of wine.

Other than how on God's Green Earth did they pay the rent w/o steady jobs in a nice neighborhood in S. California, what is Veronica's (the Professor's main squeeze in the show that Nikki obviously hated) name in real life? I want to look her up on the IMDb search. SHE IS SOOOO FINE! Probably the prettiest woman character to ever step foot on that show, and there have been quite a few, to say the least. The hot women on that show, they kind of remind me of the hotties "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" had on their show years ealier.

"The Parkers" is one of my favorite shows of late, watching them in syndication. I mean, I just love Nikki chasing the Professor, that is hilarious how he runs from her, but always seems to answer the door when she comes over to his place.

Can someone answer the Q. that I have on what Veronica's name in real life is?

Thanks.

Alize is a real drink. It's some kind of tropical liquor. TTT1, you can run to the store and buy it.

I don't know about rent, but they were going to a Community College. I don't know how it works out in California, but when I went to WCCCD, my Pell grant paid for the whole thing. Also, as another comment pointed out, Mel (Kim's father) has probably paid for Kim's education at least.

Nikki sold Lady Egytian cosmetics until she met the founder and put her in her place. Then she started baking cookies and I remember her asking Andell to invest in her business. Then Nikki worked as a chef for Andell and impressed some food critics, and from there she went on to catering.

I know this thread is old, but I always wondered about this too. I always assumed they were getting Section 8 vouchers that charge rent according to your income. A lady I work with, her daughter gets this and when she is unemployed her rent goes down to $30 or $40 a month. The rate is probably different in different parts of the country, though.
