I didn't see how he was really crippled.

Are you asking about what his handicap is or how he got it? (Sorry english is not my strength)

As for what it was, I'm pretty sure it was because he only had 1 arm.

You're not the only one who failed to notice that his hand was missing, I'd like to say I was doing something else while watching the movie but I can't, I'll just blame his flappy robe instead.
