Carlin

Where was it Carlin transferred from where he hit the screw? I know Archer was came from Dover but where was Carlin from? Cheers.

Both versions of Scum state two different institutes Carlin from transferred from: in the 1977 version, a place called "Bagthorpe" is mentioned where in the 1979 version, the officer with the tinted glasses (whose identity still remains a mystery) describes Carlin as "the little toerag who thumped the officer at Roly". Interestingly enough, in the original TV play, both Bagthorpe and Roly are mentioned in the scene where Carlin is signed in shortly after taking that very hot bath! Hope this helps everyone.

Don't know if it's fictional or not, but I can't find Roley (Rowley?) anywhere searching for Borstals or Approved Schools.

Found this link which is interesting for Scum fans:

Interesting reading I must say, although it sounds like some pervert's wank fantasy.(Don't worry Andy, I'm not referring to you!)
By the way, why does "skinhead" appear in the URL?

Do you mean that the inmates are shown taking their obsilgatory bath/shower on arrival in the 1977 version?

Hi, I'm new to this forum.

To answer the question of the identity of the officer with the tinted glasses.

The Identity of the officer with the tinted glasses who described Carlin as the little toerag who thumped the officer at Roly is Nigel Humphreys. He acted with the other actor - P.H. Moriarty, a bearded officer in the 'Scum'.

They also acted in other british gangster film: 'The Long Good Friday'and were the henchmen of Harold (Bob Hoskins) the gangster. Nigel Humphreys acted as Dave and P.H. Moriarty as Razors but Moriarty had more acting role in the film.

Moriarty acted in Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as 'Hatchet' Harry Lonsdale.

Nigel Humphreys acted in minor roles on British television programmes series such in The Bill in a brief role - Beer and Bicycles (1989), The last minor acting role he acted was in 1996 - in Wycliffe, 2 episodes as a Asst Chief Const. Ken Lyman.

The mystery of Nigel Humphreys is that there is no updated photograph of himself and I do not know if he still wear the famous tinted glasses which suited himself as a classic villian appearance.

But it seems rather strange that his IMDb profile states he was born in 1951, therefore he would be around 27 years old at the time of filming Scum (1979). He looked older than 27 when he played Mr Taylor, however this may be an error.

I watched The Long Good Friday recently on Film Four where I personally recognised him as the mystery officer who beat up Carlin. Following this, I posted a message on the '79 Scum board.
