she's 15

She's 15 and had a kid I don't why people expect her to be grown up and actually want a kid, when she had plans of her own. The boards just make me feel silly.

This movie always reminds me of my babysitter from childhood. Same age as Bev, only she got in trouble in 1964. One night she was babysitting me and her younger brother and her boyfriend came over. She said she was going to talk with him in his car in the driveway but instead they drove off for more than an hour. Not long after they "had to get married". They're still married last time I heard and had 3 boys, but they never got out of the old neighborhood.

Times were different then. You got pregnant then you got married. You had to grow up.

My husbands grandmother got married at 14 and had her first child at 15. That's unbelievable to me but during that time in the late 40s and where she lived that was what happened. Her and her husband remained married till he passed away in the late 80s. She never married again loving her freedom. It was like she lived the life she missed. She dated a guy for over 18yrs till her death. He wanted to get married yet she said no each time. She was happy the way things were. She was an amazing woman.

Whether or not she wanted a kid is beside the point. She spread her legs and now she has to deal with the consequences. Ray is not off the hook, he needs to step up and was nothing more than a dead beat. Two wrongs don't make a right, the second she decided to have a baby the baby comes first. In those days girls who got pregnant either got married, left school (claiming they went to boarding school for a year or something) and gave the baby up after it was born OR they lead everyone to believe the baby was really the parent's (grandparents)baby. She went with getting married and raising it herself. No the situation wasn't ideal but there wasn't a gun to her head. Mothers put their babies first. Babies don't ask to be born. That is why people expect her to not act like a petulant little girl.

**btw I have awesome parents. My mom was 15 when she had me and she is a wonderful mother. So I am not talking out my ass, the person who raised me was 15 when she got pregnant with me.

I just finished watching this with my mom and at one part she had said, "Thats the sad thing about being a teen mom, your still young and have to grow up with the kid while your still a kid"
That really stuck to me

I went to an all girls Catholic school that allowed teen moms to finish their education, seeing their struggles encouraged me not to engage in sex too young. Although some did go on to have successful careers. This was in the 80's.
