Why did Jason rat out his mom for drying weed?

Does anybody have a clue why Jason turned his mom in for drying weed? Was he seeking revenge on his mom for not letting him "be a kid," or did he feel it was the right thing to tell his grandpa the truth?

reply

It was probably revenge at first. Jason knew from a young age that his life was a little different from other kids. He was more of the "parent" and Beverly was more of the child. I'm guessing though after the fact, he realized that it was the right thing to tell his grandfather (who was indeed a police man) that his mother was inside drying weed. That's why he admitted to his mother after the fact that he told. Had it been just revenge I don't think he would have admitted it.

I think the kid of did it out of spite. But I don't think he meant for it to go that far (losing all the money). The scene made me angry at first (Because Bev was working hard to go to California and get a better life) But it doesn't justify Bev yelling at him and blaming him for everything. I felt bad for both parties

reply

Because his mother was being abusive by locking him outside in the cold and ignoring him when he wanted to come inside.

reply

He was pretty mature for his age, I sure as hell did not know what weed was at that age.

reply

I do not remember the part of her locking him out.

reply

She didn't let him enter the house because they drying weed in the house.
What bothers me the most is that the mother didn't hide from her child the criminal aspect in which she is involved. At least do it in secret.

I agree with you there. Didn't her family help out financially at all, or her ex's family?

reply

from what I remember they didn't tell us nothing (or close to nothing) about Ray family, I don't even remember if we seen them at the wedding. About her family, I guess they help with a lot of things, it's clear her father don't have any problem help them financially, but I guess there is some kind of limit for them too. Her parents probably belong to the middle class, not rich folks.

So true. I recall it was the dad who suggested Ray get some kind of drug treatment, which was in its pioneering stages then.
