In the last scene, Richard Harrison is standing facing the camera, the music swells and, suddenly, there is an explosion in the distance and something shoots into the air. Harrison looks very surprised and the movie ends.
Is this the movie where the main hero puts a poison in some mellons and two of the bad guys run into the bushes to go to the bathroom? I only remember the beginning, where a girl plays a flute and the middle with the mellons. Is this the same movie?
There is a melon in this movie. But it's not poisoned. Ninja Master Harry uses a melon to practice his sword techniques. This is just after he does a Ninja Hanstand on a coffeetable.
It's definitely the defeated ninja blowing himself up. As someone else said, he does the hand gestures to call upon the ninja magic that allows himself to do this. He was defeated, therefore this was the only way to end it.
My friends and I rewound this scene about a hundred times and laughed our asses off. It doesn't seem to me that the good guy is surprised... it looks like the good guy doesn't even care, he sort of nonchalauntly looks over his shoulder.
I seriously think it was a mistake, there was no guy standing there to explode. And Harrison looks, like moola boola said, very surprised. But what an excellent recovery!
I watched NINJA TERMINATOR again last night. It does get better every time and, like a previous poster stated, I believe this movie is a masterpiece which, over the years, has been badly transferred leading us to believe that the acting, scrip and story are of low quality. In fact, the woman who plays Richard Harrison's wife is one of the greatest actors of recent times.
Anyway...
The last scene...
In the scene just before the explosion, there is a close-up of the Red Ninja looking very angry indeed. This just after Ninja Master Harry spares his life and he says, 'I am ashamed and cannever return to the Ninja Empire.' So the theory that the explosion is a Ninja suicide does hold some water.
The reason there would be no red ninja visible at the explosion is 'cuz it's a low budget movie. They couldn't afford a dummy to blow up or a CGI ninja wasn't possible I suppose.
I am sure it was Ninja suicide, he even did the ninja gestures to call upon the ninja magic to kill himself. Hardcore.
