From their names, the actors all seem Russian. So, do they speak proper German or does it sound horrible? Or did they only talk gibberish and get dubbed in post-production? Or is this really a Russian language film and IMDb has got it wrong? Anybody?

You can tell by watching their facial and lip movements that they spoke German. And as it was a script the language is fully "correct", including even bits of slang and curses.
Even so, on the sound track all their voices are completely replaced with "real" Germans, I assume for their better accent and expressiveness. This is done very carefully, and doesn't look or sound anything like a typical "dub". (If you watch very carefully, you can see that a few words were changed about every ten lines, as though somebody went over the script with a red pencil one more time after the fliming but before the ADR.)
You actually never hear the any of the "original" voices, even though they spoke perfect German. In fact, as the end credits roll you'll note that just below the actor's name for each and every roll is another entry with the unusual form "Stimme - xxx". That's German for "voice", i.e. the German actor who provided all the vocals for that character. You can notice that while the actor names all seem "Slavic", the voice names all seem "German".
