Damage did not make AMEE go mad!!

They explain this in the bloody movie which evidently I'm the only person on here who actually watched it. The damage to AMEE was something in her navigation ability, something they specifically needed her for, she turned on them because they decided to kill her and take the part out to use it manually.

She did not go berserk, she was a military asset loaned to them for navigation and now they wanted to shut her down and remove the part they needed, I'd be pretty pissed too if I was an autonomous robot and designed to defend myself.

And as for the multiple "Why would a military robot even be on the mission?!?!?" threads, geeee let me think... maybe because every country on Earth spends about 1,000 times more on defence than they do on space exploration? If NASA wanted a state of the art unmanned drone at this moment in time they wouldn't spend billions designing one they'd just ask the department of defence to send over one of the ones they've had for years.

Common sense, people. Do you know it?

Opinions are just onions with pi in them.

Well, it violates the "3 Laws." Unless you program it personally to murder you. I'm afraid we probably have a fully functional AMEE type in some black lab. If not already deployed on the Moon and Mars.

Start at hour two, and work your way to the present..

having an automomous robot without an explicit directive to not harm its overseers is insane

Why isn't AMEE's "military mode" disabled completely??
I too thought this odd initially until I gave it more thought. It could also be a victim of poor editing.
Maybe, if a saboteur(or any threat to the mission, e.g. nervous breakdown, demoralizing, etc..) was identified, mission control(or even Gallagher?) could reactivate military mode to neutralize the threat to the mission.
Also, like a condom or a gun, sometimes its better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it. They had literally no idea why oxygen was depleting. It made zero sense to them(hence the mission), so just in case they provided a capible robot.

I'm reminded of the scene in Contact where they are explaining why she needs to take a suicide pill and they say, "(paraphrased)You need to take this with you, not for the reasons we can think of, but for all the reasons we cant think of".

I figured it was simply more cost effective to add to the programming and tell them not to use military mode than to disable it completely while having it fully functioning otherwise.

Also quite possible. I like to read into Sci-fi a lot more than other genres. Maybe too much.

When I think I might be into Sci-fi too much I remember there are people out there willing to paint their face and put a letter on their chest while they go to a sporting event.
