Why this movie is stupid...

You can detect oxygen on Mars from Earth. We can detect the make up of planets beyond our solar system in 2014, so Mars is no problem.

A spaceship should have been designed to take a radiation blast or solar flare or whatever hit them.

Opening a small hatch would not rip your seat out of place. Whoever made this movie does not understand fluid dynamics. But this is a common mistake in sci fi movies, they seem to think that a small hole causes massive currents in the air, and instantly evacuates the whole room. In reality, the air moves fastest at the opening, the speed is limited by the pressure difference and size of hole, and the air moves much slower at the back of the room. So you wouldn't get dragged out if you were at the back.

The Mars reconnaissance orbiter currently sends images of the Martian surface back to Earth. Surely in the future, they'd have a better satellite? And surely said satellite would have checked that the supplies were intact, before sending a group of humans to them?

AMEE could easily have killed all of them when it first went into military mode. There was no need to hunt them down, as it could just cut through them like butter.

And why would a damaged CPU turn a robot into a killing machine? I've dropped my laptop before, and that's never happened, the laptop didn't even get angry. I would have thought that if it were a military robot, it'd be designed with certain fail safes, and designed to take a knock or two without turning on it's owners.

The temperature on Mars ranges from 20°C(70°F), at the equator, in the summer, all the way to -153°C(-225°F) at the poles. On average, it's about -60°C(-76°F). Yet in this movie, we see the astronauts sitting around and chatting with their helmets open. They would have frostbite in no time at all, and be dead pretty soon.

And the insects that eat algae? Dumb. Evolution takes millions of years! Where are they supposed to have come from?

And then why did they attack Burchenal? They'd been on the planet for ages, yet all of a sudden a million insects just swarm him and "eat his suit"? WTF?

But it's ok, just ignite one of them and it'll get the rest of them for as far as you can see. Derp.

So, pretty please... with sugar on top. Clean the *beep* car.

This is why people who question the science in ScFi movies are stupid.

"You can detect oxygen on Mars from Earth" you can't detect a virus trough microscope but you can detect oxygen on mars.
Autism at finest.
