The Martian
After Seeing the trailer for the new Ridley Scott film I was reminded of this film. As someone who thought Red Planet was much better than Mission to Mars I hope The Martian is a lot closer to Red Planet in terms of quality.

shareActually the martian stole a good and very characteristic scene from red planet. I found it lame because they should have thought of something different. It was a copy.
shareIf are you are talking about how the plot of The Martian is resolved then yes I can see you point. But I still enjoy both films very much.
shareYes good film. I read The Martian but haven't had chance to see the movie yet. I did think the ending was lifted from Red Planet.
shareYeah the liftoff sequence and "riding without a top" into space is pretty similar. But there are only so many ways you can get off Mars and they all involve a rocket. The Martian added that it was a deliberate engineering act to remove weight and stuff, not just peeled by atmosphere which would be very unlikely in the thin martian atmosphere, especially in the later part of the burn.
The other thing that also occurs in the martian is reactivating an old mars rover for the radio.
Overall I don't think this detracts from the martian.
