Spoiler Question

How can Omar Epps get upset when Lathan's character had to get back to the dorm for for her curfew? She would've been penalized. He seemed so selfish. He made it hard for me to empathize for him.

Monica was putting basketball before their relationship at the time he needed her most.

Oh, the same basketball that was paying for her education? I would hope she didn't take it for granted.

He was just acting like a baby. He went from so-called loving her to being heartless and wicked towards her, all because he discovered late in his life that his father is flawed. He was an a-hole. I didn't like him.

Not justifying his actions and he did act like an ass, but I think he did have a right to be some what mad.

The break up between the two characters in this film always annoyed me, too. I thought Monica was dumped in a really shabby way for what, IMO was NO good reason at all! After all, she was the one who caught him out there with another female, Burger King or not! And then he has the nerve to just completely shut her out like that. I liked him up until that point but found it hard to believe that he'd dump Monica with such ease after they'd basically loved each other all their lives.

I think he's damn lucky that she never got over him and wanted him back all those years later. I was happy to see them end up back together at the end but that break up was just NASTY.

Exactly QuietStorm. If you ask me, he never really seemed as into her as she was him. He was basically a spoiled arrogant ass the entire movie.

I think He was mad at the fact of her putting basketball over them but more let down.I think he was comparing the situation with his dad to their relationship, him wanting her to be there fully. The dad after all was cheating and putting on a family man type show which Qunicy adored but when the truth came out he felt betrayed in a way. So twice in one night he was the backburner for two important people he had on a pedestal.

reply

he had no right to be mad and he was being selfish. Unlike him, Monica had to work HARD for her starting position and she simply said she had curfew. She offered for him to come up to her room and he said no.

I think we have to remember that Quincy had just found out his father was cheating on his mother. It's not as simply as, "he's selfish"...he wasn't in the best space emotionally. I think people forget that Quincy's character was at the most 19 years old and not mature enough to compartmentalize his emotions.

I guess in general, I've never understood the criticism that the Quincy character, who at his oldest, atleast before they were marriedwas only 23.

People also have to understand he grew up with his mom arguing with his dad for more time with her and the family. While his dad always had basketballs stuff. So in his head there may have been an easy correlation between him needing her to sit and vent and her being concerned about curfew so she can play her game.
