Why wasnt Monica a better Basketball player ?

Seems as a kid she always loved the sport and grew up on it. She played alot as a kid even schooling young Q. However when we fast forwarded to high school she seems to not be so good.

I expected her to be on the court schooling the other girls. Instead she doesnt seem to be that much better if at all than them. Shes not getting scouted by many colleges, and the only reason she got recruited is because someone else dropped out.

Meanwhile Q is taking guys to town and has plenty of options.

I just thought how she was when she was young she;d be a michael jordan lite or something

He has natural talent, so all he needs to do is discipline himself. There's also genetics at play with Q, Monica isn't in his league when it comes to nature vs nurture.

It wasn't because of Monica performance, but her attitude. Also, she's a girl and there weren't as many opportunity for female basketball players as there were male basketball player in the 80-90s, so Monicas dealing with some sexism as the car scene shows. I don't think female basketball sports had as much hype as male basketball either. That was even an issue at the time the movie came out, because I remember media complaining about it even before the movie. If a female wanted to go pro and get paid, they had to go other countries who had professional female teams.
Much of the movie represents issues that even the media discussed on tv in 2000.

All those other girls have probably been playing since they were kids too. She isn't anything special.

But apparently she was better than Quincy when they were kids.

Bottom Line.. an actress. Is playing Monica and not a peofessional basketball player. She cant represent the skills of the entire WNBA because its just a movie about a basketball player who gets in the WNBA. WNBA has good player. One thing for sure several critic who think it sucks dont have the skills to play them or even get in the WNBA let alone the NBA.
