So in the end when she went into his arms it was just a confirmation to show how far she would go to be loved. The movie doesnt make any sense to me outside of this ending

It looked like she and Cornelius had been having an affair all along off screen. He simply walked into her apartment and started kissing her. There was already a lot of familiarity and intimacy between them. I know she was into casual sex and risk taking, but still...
