The Piano or In The Cut?

Which does everyone think is the better Jane Campion film?

reply

I saw In The Cut last night, watched The Piano years and years ago. I prefer what I remember of The Piano. In The Cut didn't feel to me like a very original story, and the sex scenes were gratuitous (I didn't feel that they added to the story at all). There wasn't much insight into the character's thoughts and feelings.

I remember being blown away by The Piano, and the music and scenery were beautiful.

The Piano. No contest -" in the cut" was cheezy, often predictable.

I agree that THE PIANO was better than IN THE CUT, but i don't agree with your opinions on it. i think that IN THE CUT was brilliant. the movie has been made with an incredible amount of astuteness. It is so interesting and the photography by Dion Bebe is absolutely beautiful. The story is masterfully written and both Meg Ryan and Mark Ruffalo give fantastic performances.

For me "THE PIANO" is far more better. And without a doubt Jane CampionĀ“s other great work is "AN ANGEL AT MY TABLE". Both are two of my favourite movies.

I'm perfectly happy to never see either one of them again an equal number of times.

The Piano is probably the most accessible, well-liked, celebrated film and therefore the most successful.
But I prefered the dark, sexy, drama of In the Cut. And I thought it was a better character study, tho Holly Hunter did a great job in The Piano.

The Piano is rather ok... In The Cut isn't at all.

In the Cut, The Piano is completely overrated. But gothic fairy tales (even when the heroine has greasy hair) are easier for the masses to like.

Even though they are by the same director, they are each completely different movies, and both are fine films for entirely different reasons. The Piano, beautiful, moving, sweepingly "big", tenderly erotic; In The Cut, steamy, dark, claustrophobic (in a good way), hotly erotic, gritty. I liked both films for wholly opposite reasons.
