Archiac morals

I thought it was interesting that the moral law of Meiji period Japan indicated by Tenzen's belief that he had to murder his wife because she had been raped was the same as Ancient Rome, 2000 years earlier. I don't know, maybe it's more ubiquitous than that. It's such a stupid law I found it strange to find it in two extremely different cultures.
I also thought he was a pretty good character until he ditched his wife just because of something she didn't have any control over, and he wasn't very sympathetic about her experience, either. What a jerk. I think the other samurai would have let bygones be bygones.
