Extended cut?

There's a note that the current version of "Flesh and Blood" runs approx. 99 minutes, but that an extended version running over 2 hrs. was set for release some time ago.

Does anyone have any information on this?

The extended version runs over 130 minutes, and will cover a number of films we had no time or room for originally. All clips have been upgraded and digitally reprocessed. We also have new interview footage of David Prowse, editor Ian MacGregor Scott, Ingrid Pitt, former Hammer chairman Terry Iliot, as well as expanded interviews with the rest of the cast, and some behind the scenes stuff which didn't make it. The earlier version is still in release in the US; this new version is primarily designed for the UK and foreign territories, though eventually the contract with Image will expire and we can send this out here.

Sounds like it should be good.

Actually, I may not have to wait for a U.S. release, as I have access to a region-free DVD player. Has a Region 2 release date been decided upon?

Anyone have new details re: the extended cut?

I figured maybe with new movies being released under the Hammer name (most notably "Let Me In"), maybe the proposed longer cut would be closer to a certainty. Anyone know more?

The New Beverly in LA is screening this in a 180 min cut next weekend....

I should check this more often; I didn't find out about the showing until four months after the fact. Does anyone know if it'll be released on video anytime soon?

reply

Argh!!! I was in California when that screening occurred, and I completely missed it. Surely it isn't just a once in a lifetime event... When is this coming to DVD?! If this new cut essentially doubled its runtime to 180 minutes, that would be fantastic. Info on the new extended cut is difficult to come by, but let's not let it fade into obscurity.

It's now out on DVD, and can be purchased direct from Ted Newsom. It is an actual silver pressed dual-layer DVD. The extended film now plays in two parts totaling 148 minutes.

If you order it in the USA it's an NTSC DVD (not PAL) and is region-free...so it will play perfectly fine in US players.
