How long would the series have lasted??

Really, how long are these kids to stay at Mt. Horizon? We're they to be there for several years? If so, then the possibility of the show being renewed would be realistic, but if their stays were only for a few months, then how could you continue the show, unless you constantly kept bringing in new cast members as the old ones were released (kind of like DeGrassi).

Or...if the kids were only there for, say, 6 months, then maybe each episode emcompasses one day (kind of like Lost or 24). Each season would have 22 episodes, so you'd get several seasons out of it if done that way.

I'm awaiting to get these eps on VHS. I contacted a site listed here, but haven't heard anything back from them as far as payment arrangements. I'm wondering how reputable it is.

Anyway, I went to another site listed here with videos from each episode and also am viewing entire eps on the Joe Lando website, so I'm getting my fill that way.

The show was never to have the same kids every season. The only constants would have been Peter and Sophie, with new kids passing through all the time.

I'd have to disagree with that. The show could have had at least one more season with the original cast. Mount Horizon wasn't like summer camp, it was in essence a substitue for high school. Kat was the only one graduating that year and had mentioned wanting to come back as a counselor later. When Scott's father came to get him he mentioned he wanted him to go back for senior year to play football, so Scott had at least one more year to graduate and the other characters seemed to be in the same position. Of course Horizon's goal was to get those kids healthy - and I'm sure they weren't dragging their heels about how much time that took but Kat had been there for at least 3 years prior. The show realistically could have had a second season with the original cast and perhaps one or two new characters since they already introduced David into the mix. I don't think it would work like Degrassi because you don't always get the same chemistry with a cast - the concept alone was great but the young actors and actresses were what really captivated the audience. Great writing just isn't enough. And let's face it, they would have lost a lot of viewers the moment Scott/Hayden left the show..

Too bad there's no way to know what the writers had planned for a second season with our favorite Cliffhangers!

but they didn't just kick them out after their highschool years did they?...i thought it was until they were 'healed' which meant that they could leave at different times...which meant that they could've been there for 1 or more years...after season 1

i always wonder how higher ground was gonna make it as a long running series. i do love the young cast--they were what got me interested in the show. and yes without the original cast minus peter and sophie, there was would be a great loss of fan base but like most people here the original cast of the cliffhangers could have made it to another season. i seriously wonder what would of happened to them-i wish michael braverman could let us know. at the end of the last episode there were so many problems and questions left untouched. no characters were "healed"-they were just on the verge of changing. i believe that with a second season we could dive into the characters even more and hopefully have an ending to the lives of the cliffhangers' kids. higher ground is an amazing show---i just wish i knew what happened to the characters. if a second season is too much to ask for then maybe they should come out with books-just one big enormous book about higher ground-i know i would definitely buy it!
