I love the show, but the title seems strange
Some of the shows on modern marvels like the one about cheese, or the one about shoes seems strange to be included in a series called "modern marvels." the word modern means recent or of recent time. Cheese and shoes have been around thousands of years before the birth of Christ. For a show titled modern marvels they should have things like Television, computers, dvd players, ipods, wifi, dvds, internet, data storage....
I mean, I love the show. I just think they should have another show called "man-made marvels" or "innovation" and that could talk about things like shoes and cheese. For more current things they should put that on "Modern Marvels."
*EDIT*
okay, I guess I'm really wrong.
It turns out that 'modern history' includes late 1400s to present day! 'Contemporary' would be more present day. I still find it strange that the word 'modern' when looked up in the dictionary means
"of or pertaining to present and recent time; not ancient or remote" yet modern history dates all the way back to the late 1400s!
'Ancient' means up the 5th century which makes sense, but don't you think as time goes on the word 'modern' will feel more inaccurate? I mean, two thousand years from now will we still say the word modern means anything that happened from all the way back in the 1490s to 4012???! When I think of the word modern day, i think 'recent'....
still, cheese and shoes were around thousands of years before the christian area....so they still shouldn't be considered a modern marvel.
I guess what i'm looking for is a show titled "contemporary marvels"!
well, i just got my history refresher course for the day!
