Full cast?

For some odd reason one of the actresses who played a murder victim in "Shroud For A Nightingale" is not credited in IMDB. She does not feature, either, on the , admittedly limited, cast list on the DVD I watched. So let me compensate by introducing her name here, particularly since she gives a superb performance, managing to come across as intensely dislikable while being nice (in that awful religious way).So stand up and take your much deserved, though belated, bow, DEBORAH FINDLAY. And anyone who didn't get to see you in "Shroud" may have caught you in the BBC's version of Mrs. Gaskell's "Cranford". Here's to may more such Deborah Findlay roles!

I recently joined IMDb and noticed that omissions are common. Shroud is listed on Findlay's page.

I've spent the last two months watching all ten Roy Marsden Dalgleish mysteries so that I can sell my collection. My favourite performance of Deborah's (of the ones I've seen) is as Matilda in Heat Of The Sun. I just saw her in State Of Play- that programme has some of the best casting, ever!

Sorry, ChouChou but Findlay`s name does appear in the cast list. Check the cast for the first episode again, I think you`ll find it there.

I think another missing cast member is Angharad Rees, a most distinctive voice and personality, despite the fact that she seems to spend most of her scenes on her knees scrubbing floors.

Movie girl Angaharad Rees does have a most distinctive voice and personality! Sadly, a key scene was cut out that she was in. Toward the end when she aids Dalgliesh after he has been attacked (not a Spoiler, but being careful) we get to see more of her acting to advantage. When the series was brand new I had taped it on VHS for my collection. Later I needed a tape and taped over it. Big error! This scene was really important and occurred just before Dalgliesh finds Nurse Rolf in the shed. This is to the best of my recollection. Sadly, when the series was released on VHS a few years later, a couple of key scenes; this one and maybe another were missing unfortunately. Later the same calamity occurred when the series became available in a boxed DVD set. The person or persons who had changed things may have been acting on order by a director or screenwriter.
Perhaps some people felt that the story dragged on and on. I, for one, did not feel that way! The key scene with Angaharad was in the book and was really important.
I wonder what poor P.D. thought about that! She is my favorite author and always will be! (Her loss just a few months ago will be keenly felt). I think SFAN is the very best Dalgliesh and I loved the cast and characters. I have watched it again and again. The story is so unique and though we always feel everything has been done with books and stories, this is certainly an exception! The spine-tingling end is shattering. Anyone reading the book may find that there is an important difference regarding AD and just maybe he is not so arrogant as he appears! It is very subtle, for AD always goes by the rules.

Does anyone out there know why these great mystery series made in the late 80's and the 90's were cut to fit boxed sets? I love the adapters and directors and most of their work, but do feel this is glaringly unnecessary! Sadly, I found the same to be true in A Taste for Death!
