Beginning Question..

When they are leaving wherever it is they're from to go to California, Willy Jack says it's already 5 and Novalee obviously doesn't like 5s so she reacts to that and when Willy Jack throws his cigarette out the window it lands in the puddle of oil or gas or something that leaking from the car and causes a fire.. Does anyone who's read the book possibly know what the result of that was?
