From Mtv:
"Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong is turning to Charles Manson for salvation, and he's bringing Kelly Osbourne and members of Blink-182, Green Day and AFI along for the ride.

When he finishes this year's Vans Warped Tour, Armstrong will put the finishing touches on the upcoming stop-motion animated film "Live Freaky! Die Freaky!" in which Manson surfaces in a post-apocalyptic wasteland to guide a group of survivors who are desperately searching for a spiritual leader.

Armstrong is producing the film for his Hellcat Pictures company. The movie was written and directed by John Roecker, an independent filmmaker in Los Angeles who once co-ran a store called You've Got Bad Taste with X singer Exene Cervenka. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles in December and will be released on DVD in February.

According to the flick's official Web site, Tim Armstrong will narrate the film, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will provide the voice of Manson, and Kelly Osbourne will voice the puppet version of Sharon Tate, the actress murdered by the Manson Family in 1969.

Other members of the cast include Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker; Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden; AFI singer Davey Havok; X singer/bassist John Doe; ex-White Zombie bassist Sean Yseult; Lunachicks singer Theo Kogan; A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese and bassist Twiggy Ramirez; and Rancid guitarist Lars Frederiksen, bassist Matt Freeman and drummer Brett Reed."

I'm sorry, but unless I hear that the movie has an ending in which Charles Manson and those who follow him blindly are utterly destroyed, I have no interest in this movie. I don't like the idea of him or his followers being glorified in any way.
Those involved in the murders were given death sentences, which were converted to life when California deemed that the death penalty was unconstitutional. Since that day, California has reversed itself again, yet cannot convert these sentences back. What a shame that is. What a shame that California couldn't give life back to the Manson Families victims as well.
I truly hope that this movie isn't the way it appears to be, with characters like "Prosecutor Bug" (Vincent Bugliosi prosecuted these savage murderers. "The Bug" was Manson's nickname for him), and "Heave Parent" (victim Steve Parent was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, had no relationship at all with the other victims, not that ANY of them deserved what happened to them). If I DO see it, I will come back and write a review based on the actual movie. But I seriously doubt that I will EVER make an EFFORT to find it.

Shame on ANYONE who glorifies Charles Manson & his followers. Instead, remember the victims. Sharon Tate. Jay Sebring. Voytech Frykowski. Abigail Folger. Steve Parent. Rosemary LaBianca. Leno LaBianca. THOSE are some of the people who should be honored, along with so many other victims. The names Charles Manson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkle, Leslie Van Houten, and Tex Watson should only be remembered as examples of things NOT to be.

Dude, you've made the perfect argument for seeing the movie. For one, it's just a joke. And yes, I know that the murders are horrible, and it is a terrible tragedy. So it seems to me that this movie is a great way to mock Manson and the people who followed him. But, saying this won't help because some people are just too closed minded to see past the surface of things that seem offensive. So, come on and prove me wrong.

reply

"it's just a joke"

Are you by any chance someone who tells "dead baby jokes" in the maternity ward?

If you want to see a good mockumentary, watch "This is Spinal Tap". Yes, if I run across this movie, I will most likely check it out. As I said before, if it is as it seems, then I find it offensive. As I also said, I hope it doesn't turn out the way it seems. Please don't assume that I'm "close-minded" simply because I believe that glorifying a serial killer is immoral. It is possible to have decent taste and still be open minded.

I'm currious as to why you're assuming this is going to be a movie glorifying Charles Manson. In your own description of the movie, you mention that it takes place after Earth has been ruined by ozone depletion, but you don't seem to jump to the conclusion that the film glorifies pollution. It seems to me that the fact that the movie features Charles Manson is more likely an indication of the aweful fate awaiting humanity if and when the Earth is eventually ruined by our own stupidity. Not only are the main characters alone and wandering in outer space, the only person who can save them is one of the most vile men in recent memory. This doesn't seem to be a glorification of mass murder, but rather a warning (in obviously and abstract manner) that we had better start taking care of this place or else face horrible consequences. But of course, I could be wrong about this, since I haven't seen the movie yet. It's just what I picked up from the breif summery of the plot. I think we should all reserve our moral judgements about the meaning of a movie until we've actually seen it and save our criticisms until we've got all the information.

What's wrong with a dead baby joke. They're funny, and as far as I know no baby has died from hearing one. It seems to me you probably shouldn't watch the movie as you have no sense of humour and take entertainment way too seriously. I'm not going to say "I don't wanna hear your sh**" or something stupid, because you have as much a right to post here as I do, but please just lighten up some. If you don't want too, that's fine, but it's a good idea.

reply

hahahahaha dead baby jokes. whats the difference between a pile of dead babies and a cadillac?

i dont have a cadillac in my garage! hahahahahahahahahahahaha

people stop being so *beep* uptight!

reply

Ugh, dead baby jokes may the one thing that unsettle me. Actually not just jokes, but lines like in "The Hills Have Eyes" where they talk about eating the baby, lol. I really can't think of anything more horrible, well, outside of a giant alien biting my head off.

And as far as Manson goes, do some research and maybe you'll actually find out he never killed anyone (at least not in the "Helter Skelter" murders), he just tied one guy up or something and is charged with being an accomplice to murder or something like that (going back and doing research on that crime site means looks at pictures of the people who died that night, and I really don't feel like looking at that right now). While the rest of his "cult" (even though there never was any cult) deserve what they got, all Manson really wants is to be alone forever and play his guitar (one reason why he never wants to get out of jail, but it would be nice if he gets out of solitary confinement something in the next 10 years, lol). And if having Manson in a movie offends, your apparently overlooking films made about it, t-shirts bearing his image, Marilyn Manson using Charlie's last name, covers his songs by bands like Marilyn Manson and Guns N' Roses, and the fact he has two released CDs out right now, which at least the 2nd one I think is better then anything you'll ever see on MTV (at least nowadays). And whether you like it or not, and I certainley didn't do this, Charles Manson has become some kind of pop icon of the 21st century.

Really this movie isn't glorifying this in any way; it's not telling the people who see it to go out n kill people now is it? If you think about it, this movie is just raising awareness to the way in which some people choose to live their lives. Besides if you don't want to see it, why waste your time on this message board promoting your opinion against it?

reply

I can't believe anyone is so ignorant and narrowminded that they would judge a movie they've never seen. It's not right. So many people judge so many things befoe experiencing them, and if you live your life that way, how will you ever do anything enjoyable? You're going to end up locked in a padded room watching the 700 club for the rest of your life, and that just sounds like absolute torture. I mean, when the irritating religious maniacs get to you, you can't even smash your head into the wall and end your own suffering.

Let me guess, don't talk to me because I made a joke that mentioned suicide? Oh no, I'm a horrible, horrible person. Let me go chastize myself with a belt now because we all know having an open mind and making jokes is just plain EVIL.

I gave you the chance of aiding me willingly, but you have elected the way of pain.

reply

hey i agree with you wholeheartedly (sp) lol i mean i love all the bands in this movie and i know that its just a joke. so im totally psyched to see this movie. just cuz i have a good sense of humor doesnt mean im a supporter or manson or any of the horrible things he was responsible for. i mean those who are gangin up sayin that this is horrible need to let loose. i cant wait to see this so get a sense of humor those of you who are freakin out about it. :)

i love GC :)

this movie doesnt glofify serial killers, you are a dumbass. shut the hell up.

reply

I hate people who take things too seriously and lack a sense of humor.

reply

Let`s ask Debra Tate how seriously she takes this. Pretty damn serious since her innocent sister`s death is being mocked. And, dead baby jokes are inappropriate when it comes to a poor child being murdered by Charles Manson`s *beep* followers.

If you feel so passionately about the opinions of people who HAVE seen this maybe you shouldn`t be in the "No plans to see this" thread. Just a thought..

This movie is about greed.

Peace out ;P

P.S. HEIL CHARLES MANSON o/o/o/o/o/

xX Sassy
*beep* you...how's that for constructive??"
"That's great...now go to time out."

reply

I glorify Charles Manson.
I think he should be freed, judging that he personally killed no one.
Shame on me, then?
No.
Shame on you, for ignorance.

reply

Charles Manson authorized the killing of multiple people, he shouldnt be glorified for that, he should be punished. However, the film isnt that bad its actually pretty good. it's just about the events that occured surrounding Charles Manson and his conspiracy, but to not see this movie for that reason is completely irrational.

reply

What's really funny is that there are people out there who apparently didn't read what I stated on the first message, but felt compelled to say that I'm ignorant. Why? Because I see no reason to glorify anyone who participates in mass murder.
To all those throwing the religious card in... what on earth are you talking about? Where did you get the idea that I'm a religious fanatic? You have no clue what my spiritual preferences are, yet you assume I watch the 700 club and read the bible? My husband read your comments and laughed so hard he fell over.
Those of you who think Manson should be freed - tell ya what, if it DOES ever happen, please do send him an invitation to stay at YOUR house. Same for his followers, please prepare a guest room for them in your home. And no fair leaving the state while they're there.
I still have no intention of seeing this, I never asked anyone to agree with me (or to come on a thread that you obviously disagree with simply to rant). If you can't think of something better to do, try reading a book. "Helter Skelter" comes to mind.
