Does anyone else cry at the end?

That scene at the end gets me every time -

When Dr. Serizawa sacrifices himself.

Before he cuts the air hose, he tells Ogata "Be happy with Emiko. Goodbye."

Ogata is crying, and he stops long enough to tell Emiko "He said be happy together." Then she starts sobbing.

The mother-in-law of a friend of mine resembles Godzilla & once I was at my friend’s house while his mother-in-law was also visiting. We were watching Godzilla on DVD & near the end of the film after I had a few beers I told her she reminded me of Godzilla, she was not amused. During the closing scene my friend & I were busting a gut laughing with tears coming down our faces while his wife & mother-in-law gave us filthy looks. So yeah I cried at the end. Boo Hoo, Boo Hoo, Boo Effing Hoo. LoL

reply

Yeah, I still cry. More now that I know exactly why he's doing it after watching the Japanese version. I never quite understood why in american version.

reply

It was still pretty obvious in the American version to me, to make sure how the Oxygen Destroyer works can't be forced out of him.

Very sad ending. Godzilla and Serizawa are both great characters, and it sucks that they both die. For different reasons, or course.

I didn't cry, but I did think it was an all around depressing ending. Not only because Dr. Serizawa dies, but also because Godzilla dies. It was sad to see his bones like that.

Yea, seeing Godzilla's lifeless skeleton just made me think of my dog. :'(

It was the fault of the human race that Godzilla came to life. Mankind should reap what he sows. Godzilla was just an innocent lizard.

Strange, I was ambivalent, I was 8 years old. I know he killed thousands and destroyed Tokyo. All those people... there was a scene in which a mother with three children ,the flames all around them, she told them "Soon you will meet your father in heaven". Godzilla was a terrible menace. No civilization should have to go thru such destruction.
But Godzilla was one of a kind. Perhaps as a child I did not want to see a monster that size die. I was sentimental about the monster. But a wild animal is a wild animal and must be put down. The film tug at our hearts, I guess thats why the studio got rich and made more monster films. Maybe the myth of monsters that destroy a civilization(s) will continue in our modern myths. That is if the films make a huge profit.
Perhaps we hardly recognize evil when its even in front of our faces.

I cried for Raymond Burr, but he would go onto bigger things. But seriously, I really like this version as much as original.
