Prequel or sequel?

What is it?

This was a prequel to Anastasia.

I thought it'd be a sequel, given the times both were made... then again, I'm not sure as to what it really is... it's kinna indistinqushable (sp?).

Ha. That'd be awesome. Lol. The only good thing he's produced is CSI... or is that Jerry Bruckwiler?

I thought Ivan the Terrible was before Anastasia though... in fact I'm pretty sure of it... *confused face*

Ivan the Terrible = First Tsar, thus it's not him.

Ah, some looking into Russian Folklore found the answer.

Prince Ivan (rough translation) was a folk hero, he is the son of the Tsar/young Tsar who overcomes problems for the people.

However IT is a prequel.

I was SURE when I saw this that he must be Anastasia's and Dimitri's son or grandson or something cause he's got her hair and his... everything else. But after the Antitzarist Revolution, there were no more tzars or royal families in Russia so it can't be it... And even if it IS about a folk character, the question still remains: "WHEN is this happening, in relation to <<Anastasia>>"?!?

Sorry for double-posting but I just wanted to put this link up as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartok_the_Magnificent it's the wikipedia page for Bartok the Magnificent and it says there that it's a prequel, and that the boy is Prince Ivan Romanov. Hmmm.... that should answer our question :P

From Gary Goldman:

3)How come you guys did Bartok the Magnificent? You guys have never done sequels before, and this one wasn't even released in theatres. It wasn't bad or anything, I was just wondering why it's the only sequel you guys have done, and why you chose it. I also noticed it was a very different style from Anastasia, and takes place BEFORE it, rather than after it. I was expecting it to be a sequel.

3) We did Bartok The Magnificent after Anastasia because Fox did not have another feature script ready for us. So, we asked if we could do a direct to video project to keep the animation staff together while they got something ready for us in LA. They gave us a budget and we gave them Bartok 14 months later. It was a more of a spin off than a prequel. We created a situation for Bartok and built the story around him. So, in actuality the only sequel we've ever done is Dragon's Lair II: A Time Warp, the video sequel to Dragon's Lair. It was either come up with something fast or Fox would lay off the crew. Thank you for taking the time to write. Regards.

Although it's called a spin off, logically when you simply consider the film Anastasia basically starts with the end of Russian Royalty and that's something that is still present in Bartok, so by that logic it's a prequel. However both are fictional stories anyway so I wouldn't be too concerned with something happening before or after something.

Well, wait, if it's a prequel then how did he end up wit Rasputin if this film showed that he did some good deeds?

Maybe Bartok was being manipulated by Rasputin.....
