What a boring and absurdly cheap film...

I haven't read the book, so I can only judge the film by its merits as a film...

I really wanted to enjoy this film, but upon viewing it I found very few redeeming qualities. I actually can't think of any. It seemed like every time I started to get bored it would just go the cheap route and flash either real life images of gore on screen or show something sexual just to keep my attention. This, of course, being the absolute cheapest way to maintain a viewer's attention.

The story itself was nonexistent for the better part of the film, and when it finally came to fruition there were still no redeeming qualities. If I got the impression early on that "abstract" was the point, by the end it became clear that even within the context of abstractions there just wasn't much there to work with.

As a visual film it's cheap. As an abstract film it fails for the aforementioned reasons. Even all the cheap sex and gore clips don't amount to much more than a bad day on the Internet. The meat of the film itself is just not there.

Now, I'm sure the book was better (it always is). And if you've read it you'll probably be driven by curiosity to watch it anyway, but I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone else.

But to be fair I thought I'd ask everyone here, what do YOU like about this film (if anything)?

Good luck with the novel then.
