Alex's death

I missed TW when it was on prime time..now I dvr it every morning and I look forward every night to being captivated by this wonderful show and it's intense characters. The way Alex died has really effected me! It seriously never leaves my mind...Is there a support group for this ???? When can i move on?? Im only half kidding..that was really completely unbelieveable.....Happy new year all

reply

Eh, not to be insensitive, but I was always could-take-or-leave-her about Amy Carlsson's character. Of course, seeing any series regular - even one who wasn't there from the start - being folded like a taco is traumatic enough to affect the most stoic TW viewer.

Lisa : Women won't like being shot in the face.
Homer : Women will like what I tell them to like!

reply

Probably not such a good idea to put that in your subject line. Those of us that just started watching didnt realize Alex was going to die.

reply

If you are watching the reruns right now the episode in which Alex died aired this past Tuesday a full day before the posted started this thread. So if you are infact watching the show in reruns you wouldn't have been spoiled by her subject line. Also when a show is in reruns like this and you go poking around messages boards about the show you will run across spoilers so if you don't want to be spoiled do read the board.

reply

thanks jsanders for coming to my rescue.as far as I know TW is only on A and E once a day..so....dont read the message boards if you dont want to know!!!!

reply

I am watching the reruns on DVR so I havent got that far yet. It is common knowledge(and sense)that you use a spoiler heading. I can tell by your responses that you two have neither though. Just an attitude.

reply

It is common knowledge for new show to use spoiler headings but not for shows that are in reruns. I say again when you are watching a show that ended years ago and you go poking around a message board for that show don't be surprised if you come across some information you don't want to see. The fans of the show that watched the show years ago are free to talk about stuff that happened on the show with out putting spoiler in the heading because it is no longer a spoiler. Spoilers only apply to shows that have not aired or maybe just aired this week not show that aired years ago. As for me not having any common knowledge and sense it is you that has no common knowledge or sense because if you did you would know better then to poking around a message board for a show that has been off the air for years. Oh and if you want to talk about an attitude try looking in the mirror.

reply

Ooh that really hurt. And of course you thinking that spoilers only apply to shows that have not aired or recently aired is only your opinion.

reply

jenc98 if it's any concellation, I agree with you. It doesn't matter if these are reruns lots of people never got to see the show in the original run. I do think the OP was probably thinking that everyone saw the show already on rerun. I too dvr it and usually stay off the message boards until I'm caught up, but not all together that's just ridiculous, the boards are for everyone and the rules on this particular site is that you put spoiler in the title if there is a spoiler. :)

Spoilers refer to anything that gives away something that you would not know unless you watched the series, movie, book, etc. There is no "time frame" on spoilers. Not everyone reading this is watching it on tv, some will watch the dvds, maybe it will show again in the future. I think it's pretty piss poor to expect that everyone should expect spoilers when they visit a page for any show or movie that isn't currently playing for the first time.

The appropriate response to this person would have been "sorry for ruining it, I didn't realize people still hadn't seen it and might not know what I am talking about".

But hey, it's just a stupid board on IMDB so who really gives a crap.

reply

Thanks you two. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks there is no time frame on spoilers.

reply

But wouldn't that make pretty much every post a spoiler post? Think about it, any post discussing something dealing with the show would be a spoiler to someone else that hasn't seen the show? I mean, if I started watching Dawson's Creek (not saying I'm going to) Can I ask that all posts in the Dawson's Creek forum carry spoiler warnings? What else would be left to post about otherwise?

Were people shot dead left and right on "Dawson's Creek"? Were there any Cylon impostors on "Dawson's Creek"? Did J.R. get shot on "Dawson's Creek"?

Never mind that "Dawson's Creek" has nothing to do with any of those TV shows, or is even the same thing (an any way, shape, or form). The point is you can go on a message board and discuss things like art direction, "shark-jumping", or "so-and-so is so hot!" without spoilers ruining it for other people. Yes, this is a message board, and people should be perusing topics at their own risck (especially on IMDb ), but does it really take up that much of your day to add a spoiler tag in the Subject Line (so those people know not to read that particular topic.... and now they've screwed it up for themselves)?

reply

I dont think everything would be a spoiler. I know that by coming on here without watching the whole series I am risking seeing somethings. In this case maybe the subject line could have at least left out the death part. I came here to find out something about someone else and would not have even clicked on this post but its kinda hard to miss with the word death in it.

reply

But, wouldn't that be like going to MASH forum and starting a post "Henry's Death" ? Should such a post carry a spoiler warning?

Well seeing as I have yet to see "MASH", you've spoiled something!

It was completely shocking, and most of all brutal, but sad. It wasn't just that she died, but the 'way' it happened was... uh.

Who cares about the spoilers? You ruined it for yourself by using imdb. There is no written rule that the subject must contain a spoiler in it. The subject addresses the subject and it will catch attention. So stay off the site and watch the show. Stop bitching about it.

reply

I don't know why people are getting so nasty about this poster being upset by the spoiler.

I've watched shows after they have long been off the air and I'd be ticked if I had something SIGNIFICANT ruined for me. Little trivial episode details-- fine, whatever, you risk that coming to IMDB but BIG things, like Alex's death, would cause anyone to be ticked off.

Don't treat this guy like some tool simply because YOU weren't the person who had something ruined for you.

And no, you are right, there is no 'written rule' about spoilers, but anyone who doesn't suck as a person is usually willing to make a small effort to warn people that they may be exposing some serious plotline. Can you imagine having a movie or plot in a show ruined for you? Even shows and movies 10 years old. For example, think of someone who hasn't seen Sixth Sense. Sure, the movie is YEARS old, but would you freely discuss the BIGGEST PLOT TWIST of the movie and ruin it for someone without maybe saying "hey have you seen sixth sense?"

COMMON COURTESY GOES A LONG WAY.

I post on the NCIS board all the time and we get new viewers CONSTANTLY who haven't seen the past six seasons and nearly EVERY poster over there warns if there is a major spoiler being mentioned (like a main character on the show dying). Afterall, how much effort does it require to type "warning: spoiler below"

Stop being a jerk just for the sake of it

You hesitate to stab me with a word, and know not - silence is the sharper sword.

What time is it on? It used to be at 7 a.m. (EST) and now I can never find it. I got the first 3 seasons for Christmas. It's the only TV show that I loved enough to want the DVD's.

Alex's death was very traumatic and it affected me for a long time also. Especially with her last words being "tell my mother it didn't hurt". `The look on her face when she fell to the pavement was amazing.

reply

I don't think A&E is currently showing it. How did you get season 3 for christmas when only the first 2 are out on DVD?

reply

She wasn't "folded like a taco" although that is a great line, she was blown in half, her legs landed beside her.

Hard to shake that off!

Consider yourself lucky. I tried reporting you for spoiling without warning
and thereby removing your ability to post anymore on these forums.
But apparently 'spoilers' are too common to be punished for.

NEXT TIME, MAKE A SPOILER WARNING !!

reply

really? you're done solving the world's problems so you've got the kind of time it takes to report people for spoiling shows that have been off the air for years?

Even if you where able to report someone for spoilers, which you can if they really meant to ruin the show, they would not ban them from posting they would only delete the post.

This is what you get when you use the "this post contains spoilers" option.

Discussions on our boards are likely to contain plot spoilers and this is therefore not normally reason enough to report abuse. However, if the post relates to a recent title and the intention of the post is to deliberately ruin the viewer's enjoyment, please go back and choose the "none of the above" option on the abuse menu instead.

IMDB's policy clearly states recent title and a show that has been off the air for years is not a recent title. I have said this before and I will say it again in my opinion if you go poking around a message board of a show that has been off the air for years and you have not seen the show then you can't complain about what you read.

reply

I dont care what IMDBs policy says, its just considerate to not put things like this in a subject line. Not asking for alot here. It takes no more time out of your day to do this. So what if the shows been off the air for years? When someone just starts watching a show that has previously aired, they may want to go to boards for questions like anyone else. If the subject line had said "Alex Spoiler" I would not have looked at it since I wasnt into those episodes yet. And if I had it would have been my own fault.

Well apparently from reading the other responses to this thread i must warn you that what I am about to write is a spoiler for those who havent seen it yet(sorry im not going to use spoiler tags just dont read the rest if you dont want to know)....

Alex dies in the season finale of season 4 (episode title "The Price of Nobility"). They were at the scene of a really bad car accident and she was trying to help a elderly couple that was trapped in their car. The car was on fire and Doc and Lt. Johnson both kept telling her to get off but she didnt listen. The car blows up and Alex gets blown in half (literally...it was probably one of the most if not the most gruesome death I have ever seen on TV).

reply

I kind of have to agree with the people who say spoiler warnings are not needed. If you go to TV.com and read the episode description for this episode the fact that Alex dies in that episode is stated right in the description. For people who saw it when it originally aired on NBC im sure you remember that you could tell from the previews for the episode that Alex died.

Maybe the OP should have used a different title (such as What happens to Alex in "The Price of Nobility") because then people who hadnt seen the episode would know not to read it.

reply

[deleted]

I know, that was horrible how her head and torso landed first, then her legs. Still bothers me years later

reply

Honestly, this whole thing about whether or not it was a spoiler is ridiculous. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with what people have said. Okay, I will admit, I first started watching this show shortly before the 1st season was released on DVD (therefore a few years after the last episode aired) and would not have been pleased to see that Alex died. But, at the same time, that's also what I get for coming to the IMDB boards.

The only thing that I may have done differently than the OP, is simply say "Sorry if this spoiled it for those of you who haven't seen it"...just as a common courtesy. He or she may not even have realized that they posted something that could be viewed by others as a spoiler post.

Either way, people should not jump down each other's throats, so to speak, and start a fight over it...honestly, what's done is done.
Just my two cents, and sorry if it offended anyone.

reply

Problem is, that it´s not only shown when you enter the boards, but you can see posts from the front page. So someone entering the the "Thrird Watch" page to see what kinda ratings it got, when it came out, or what show they know Officer Davis from, will get hit in the face with it. OP was acting thoughtlessly and deserves to get bashed for it.

reply

I wouldn't particularly say he/she deserves to get bashed for it constantly. Sure a few comments here and there, but bashing is taking it too far IMO. I agree though that the OP did act thoughtlessly when posting her death in the thread title.

I haven't gotten there yet, But I was affected by fireman Bobby getting shot by his childhood friend
