Alfre Woodyard shined beautifully in this show....

I could see why she'd been cast as a desperate housewife. Everyone was spot on...great cast...interesting plotlines....everyone was cute and sexy!

Best Actress- Alfre Woodyard

shined isn't a word.

Shined or shone - whichever it would be - she certainly did. She has always been a class act and in this movie, she was amazing. The pie-eating scene when she finally let her feelings come out was unbelievably real.

I got a kick out of Lainie Kazan's mom character, too - kind of bewildered, disappointed, yet loving. Casting Estelle Harris (Mrs. Costanza on Seinfeld) as the aunt was genius - she was a riot.

I thought Mercedes Ruehl was the best performer in the movie. She never lost her center and accepted life had changed. Most of the families held on to traditions that didn't apply a that time. To me that's not accepting reality. Yes honor your traditions but not to the point of ignoring what's around you.

she loved poetry and romance, but she hit the glass ceiling at birth

Indeed she did a great job.
