Misstakes A Plenty

This a great Kids Movie, but there a mistakes a plenty, they didn't do their historical research well, there so amny things in the 1657 village that wouldn't have existed at that time it's funny, like hand pumps on the sinks!!

What do you expect in a movie about Ghosts?! all realism is out the window.

Not to mention the talking dog

One of the biggest ones is that they completely butchered the concept of Wicca and Wiccans. Wicca isn't some ancient religion, first of all. It dates back to the 1950s. Second, Wiccans aren't nature-lovers. Wicca is a fertility cult. The weirdest part about its inclusion here is that an individual must be of legal age to consent to sexual activities before being cross-gender initiated as a Wiccan. In other words, you don't become a Wiccan without some sort of boinking taking place.

I'm not so sure how "it's just a cartoon" works in the complete failure to portray an actual religion. Would you be so forgiving if they mentioned Christians, describing them as worshippers of an alien Santa Claus from another dimension? I'm not Wiccan, so I'm not offended, though it reeks of laziness on the part of the filmmakers to even try to get their facts straight.

Christians believe in ghosts and talking snakes, why should anyone care about getting the 'facts' right for them either

Weird though their beliefs may be, let's be honest for a moment. Had they actually gone so far as to butcher Christians like they butchered Wiccans, people would have been calling bullsh!t all over the place, whether you were a Christian or not.

And FYI, there are plenty of atheists who believe in ghosts, as well as people of other religions.

ok I just have to point out...to butcher wiccan's it would have to happen with in the last 80 odd years.

also Christians (like almost every not actually brand new religious group) have been sluterd(sp?) in there history....some not all that long ago.

Also, I thought "God" was a squirrel named Scrat? I mean, if we're just gonna be talking about Life, the Universe and Everything, then I just punched a glory hole in your theories.
Also, I'm sick of all this "Ben CAN'T be a descendant of Sarah's. She didn't have any kids!".
Well, there's nothing in the story about Sarah not having any parents, siblings or other family members whom bared the Ravencroft name.
After all, the 1600s were a long time-span from the 2000s. Unless, the movie put the Mystery, Inc. in a time-machine and showed them that Sarah was a loner and killed everyone with the Ravencroft last name, then it would be apparent that Ben was lying.
