The Writers And Director Should Do Time

For making a movie so full of holes that it's like pulling time watching it....First off others have already mentione the huge flaw of putting a young black first time prisoner in with a hard core Aryan. Prison is one place where segregation does exist, and for a really good reason...It keeps people from being killed...Especially first timers.

My other problems with the movie was how only the dealer didn't have a real alibi, but the other two did, but apparently those didn't count. But my biggest problem was basically the same problem with most Hollywood prison movies. They make it seem like a prison is just full of ways for inmates to basically take over things and run the prison inhside. Nothing could be further from the truth. Over the years through a lot of trial and error they've designed incarceration to be completely controlled. If there was a prison as loose as this one there'd be guards dead even without a riot. So they make sure there's no visable oppertunities available. Granted they find ways around things because it's their nature, but it's not easy. I worked in a fed prison for a while, but didn't want to continue because I basically couldn't stand the mindset of some of the other staff.

I've driven truck for many years, and have had to deliver to a few prisons in OK. Going in and out everything including my bunk is looked at, and the primiter is always patrolled by at least two SUVs with armed guards. I back into an enclosed building where everything is watched both by guards on the dock and camera. These guys don't leave anything to chance. That's why seeing a movie where these guys can basically go where they want, do what they want, have all kinds of opportunities to make weapons just hanging around like that.....It just makes the movie seem like a half assed effort. They base the movie on violence and figure that's good enough.

I wonder if they'll ever make a real prison movie? Where the drama and violence has to be donewith a lot more finess. One where all the prisoners don't fall into the usual cookie cutter modes we've always seen in these movies. OZ came fairly close, but they too had way too much freedom in prison, but the dramj was much better than most.
