The Delanys' Sisters domineering father

I thought that in the movie the Delanys' sisters is very domineering and overbearing in a way. He treated them like they were children even though they were adults. Especially with him dealing with Sadie falling love with a suitor named Frank. They said that there were rumors about him but rumors are rumors when their are proven. I thought Sadie could have some companionship with someone other than her family. That is a shame for parents not letting their own children to grow up make their own choices and decisons when their parents gave them a chance.

Have you read the book? As I recall the father AND the brothers made sure he wasn't to come around anymore because the rumors were true. Those were his daughters and I don't know, fathers maybe don't care about their daughters reputations these days, but back then it would be hell freezing over before they'd let their daughters ruin their lives over a guy. Something else to consider, their daddy was a Reverend, and reverends didn't in those days raise their children to date with anybody who's bad news or even suspected of bad news.

He was overbearing, but my grandfather was the same way with my mom and her siblings, and he too was a minister. I never read the book, but would like to read it, but in those days and up until my Mother's time period which was 1960's and 1970's, Ministers with daughters were very overbearing. I don't know if they are like that now.
